Role Summary:

This position is responsible for multi-source data acquisition the timely preparation and submission of Emission Defect Reporting documents to the appropriate government agencies and to support the execution and continuous improvement of the Defect Reporting Team’s processes. Knowledge of emissions components and on-board diagnostic software monitoring.

Role Responsibilities: 

Emission Defect Reporting – (70%)

  • Be proficient in the Defect Reporting investigative process, backing all levels of defect reports to agencies.
  • Assists in preparation, and editing of Emission Defect Reports and submits to appropriate government agencies via electronic means.
  • Understand EPA consent decree - be proficient in requirements and supporting documentation and data to comply with agreement.
  • Monitors the status of the emission component warranty to ensure that reporting is in compliance to agency regulation
  • Identify issues that need require investigation or reporting prior to reaching given thresholds.
  • Work within department and externally to gather data and facts related to a topic in order fully understand root cause and resolution.
  • As a group member - liaison with VWGoA / factories and other internal customers as requested or needed to assure good communication
  • Run Ad-hoc reports to provide support data / claim analysis to groups
  • Proficiency in Powertrain related technical issues / emissions testing procedures
  • Supports other EEO regulatory activities as required.
  • Able to disseminate and share knowledge of emissions systems, components and functionality in order to aid compliance reporting team in appropriate action / resolution.

Multi-source Data Acquisition – (20%)

  • Process owner, responsible for multi-source data acquisition using Business Objects, Elsa, Guided Fault Finding and other sources to support emissions related investigations
  • Responsible for all reporting templates used by the defect reporting team
  • Data owner for Emission Defect Reporting database and all data elements and data relationships required to support defect reporting investigative and reporting processes
  • Database maintenance, improvement and development supporting repeatable process and team processes

Cross Functional Development / Support – (10%)

  • Upon request, Recommend technical proposals for Service Bulletins and Customer letters based on agency requirements, in order to comply with regulation
  • Assist with Brand communication to provide guidance on reporting compliance and processes
  • Coordinate responsible topics between EEO and Product Support groups to manage early warning issues/investigations.
  • Strengthen the lines of communication between the Factories (U.S., Mexico and Europe) along with the Test Center in Oxnard, CA in order to improve our parts analysis processes and to stay abreast on relevant quality topics
  • Review certification, historical and current documents and systems to determine 7/70 high cost and emissions relevant components – for monitoring and reporting

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Years of Experience:

  • 6 to 9 years of experience in Automotive Industry / automotive data analysis

Education - Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering, Information Systems, Automotive Technology, or related field or equivalent

Education - Desired:

  • Master’s Degree – Engineering, Business, Automotive Technology, or IT Project Management 

Skills:

Specialized Skills - Required:

  • Understanding of Volkswagen Group product portfolio, including technical features.
  • Understanding of vehicle emission control systems and onboard diagnostics.
  • Understanding of emission regulations and emission certification procedures.
  • Proficiency with standard business software; basic knowledge of and ability to learn the function of computer databases.

Specialized Skills - Desired:

  • Direct experience with emission certification and emission testing.
  • Direct experience with onboard diagnostic system applications.
  • Proficient if EPA, ARB and ECCC regulations and reporting processes

Work Flexibility:

  • Minimal amount of travel required.
  • Work schedule can be somewhat flexible (e.g., flextime, or compressed work week). 
  • Must be available to contact colleagues at U.S. and European locations and government agencies across the U.S. and Canada.
