Job Summary

Apple is looking for an experienced and creative Cartographer to help us shape the future of Apple Maps. In this role you will be able to bring your design sense and engineering skills to a mapping platform that reaches millions. Every day you will be working with world class designers, software developers, and data engineers to solve complicated information problems for our customers.

Key Qualifications

  • Minimum three years experience designing and implementing small and large scale digital maps
  • Experience working with a variety of spatial datasets including street networks, land use, landcover and vegetation, business points of interest, buildings, transportation systems, hydrological networks, elevation/terrain, and imagery
  • Deep geographic knowledge, including familiarity with cartographic conventions and expectations outside of the United States
  • Demonstrated skill curating map content and improving the accuracy and effectiveness of information display
  • Familiarity with programming languages and software development life cycles
  • Ability to create clear and concise prototypes and specification documents
  • Desire to help shape the toolchain needed to support these needs

Description

The Cartography Team is looking for a Cartographic Developer to join us in turning complex geographic data into information our customers can use to solve everyday problems.

We are looking for someone who is equally comfortable diving into the details as they are laying out the big picture. You should be able to dig through technical problems to find the root cause of issues, as well as create high level designs that chart a course for the development of Apple Maps.

Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop for prototyping maps Proficiency with CSS-like cartographic styling languages, like CartoCSS Experience working with scripting languages like Python Understanding of HCI/UX/UI principles

Education

Masters degree in cartography, geography, GIS, or related field, or Bachelors degree with at least 6 years of relevant work experience
