The Director of Investor Relations will execute on a mature and well-established investor relations program, and will help manage and oversee all investor relations activities for Crane Company. This includes managing all externally focused investor communications and messaging, as well as working collaboratively within Crane Company, serving as a partner to the executive team on strategic and financial matters, and partnering closely with the company’s operating segment business leaders.

The position requires developing relationships with current and potential investors and shareholders; remaining current on all company business, operations, and financial matters, as well as industry trends; helping to manage the company’s narrative and reputation in the investment community; communicating effectively with the company’s leadership about investment community topics that impact the organization; and, leading the day-to-day formulation and execution of short- and long-term external and internal investor communications plans.

The Director of Investor Relations will be expected to take a strategic, highly collaborative, and energetic approach toward the execution of the Investor Relations function. A “big picture” mentality is critical, coupled with the ability to make connections to company-level strategy and development. He or she will need to be investor- and market-savvy, and capable of shaping an evolving strategic narrative for the investment community.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Together with the Senior Vice President of Investor Relations, Treasury, and Tax, serve as the company's spokesperson and information conduit to the investor community. Develop and maintain strong relationships of trust and respect with analysts and investors and respond to external requests for financial and strategic information in an accurate, compliant, and timely manner.
  • Develop investor relations communications including earnings documents (press releases, earnings conference call scripts, slides), conference and non-deal roadshow materials, and content for the investor relations section of the website. Collaborate with Finance and Legal teams to support the strategic communication elements of documents including quarterly and annual SEC filings.
  • Manage quarterly earnings process and conference calls including key messages, talking points for senior management, comprehensive Q&A, and follow up with investment community.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and update internal stakeholders with all relevant developments related to public peers, partners, suppliers, customers, and competitors, as well as industry trends and developments.
  • Ensure that Crane Company’s business strategy and opportunities are understood by the analyst and investor community.
  • Work with the leadership team to refine and implement the company’s overall Investor Relations strategy, including creation/modification of the company’s financial communications story, external and internal messaging, scheduling of events (e.g. conferences, investor/shareholders days, site visits, etc.), and ensuring all communications are integrated and consistent.
  • Serve as an advisor to senior leaders on topics including effective communication strategies to disclose business actions to the analyst and investment community, as well as the potential impact of business initiatives, acquisitions and divestitures, and capital allocation decisions on the market and shareholders.
  • Provide senior executives at the company with accurate and timely updates related to investor sentiment about Crane Company, feedback from investor community interactions and meetings, and changes in the shareholder base and composition.
  • Support for M&A activities, working closely with the business leadership, finance and corporate development.

Profile Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader with deep financial acumen and strategic agility. He or she will be an intellectually curious professional with a strong executive presence, incredible attention to detail, and an intense sense of urgency when dealing with requests from both internal and external stakeholders. The Director of Investor Relations must also have rigorous financial and analytical skills, and the ability to make important decisions quickly despite limited or imperfect information. The successful candidate will be a positive, hands-on self-starter, with exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills that will enable her or him to explain complex financial and strategic concepts to a variety of audiences with varied backgrounds. The Director of Investor Relations will also be able to disagree, face confrontation, and introduce new and controversial concepts with tact and diplomacy to facilitate productive and influential conversations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required. MBA and/or CFA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive finance experience. Sell-side research, buy-side, or investment banking experience highly desirable.
  • Solid understanding of finance and accounting concepts required.
  • Ability to travel on investor road shows and conferences, as well as business operating reviews and other events, both domestically and internationally.
