Academic Part-time Position

We require qualified individual/s to mentor students throughout their Internet of Things (IoT) Capstone projects. These students are attending this training through a corporate delivery with an employer partner.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. The position is offered on a contract basis with deliveries scheduled as early as June 2024, with class running from 9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday-Friday for four weeks. A second contract will also be available in late Fall 2024, and again in March/April 2025. Incumbents will be scheduled to instruct in-person at Conestoga’s SMART Centre, 96 Grand Ave., Cambridge. The incumbent will also receive a development contract to familiarize themselves with the theory content; IT, Robotics, and PLC content; and eConestoga, Conestoga’s Learning Management System.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology/Programming, Computer Engineering, or related field of study
  • Minimum three years of experience working as an Internet of Things Broker Administrator, in a Manufacturing environment, or IoT Solutions Development
  • Strong understanding of Agile Project Management, Programming (JavaScript and TypeScript), MQTT, ELT (extract/load/transform), HiveMQ, and NodeRed/NodeJs, PostGreSQL, as well as data visualization and dashboarding required using tools such as Grafana, GraphQL and PowerBI
  • Strong understanding of Robotics and PLCs is considered an asset
  • Experience in building an end to end IoT solution (i.e., microservices for PLC data extraction to MQTT broker, microservices to support ELT to database server, APIs for data analytics and visualization) is considered an asset
  • Strong understanding and application skills in MS Office suite (including MS Teams) is considered an asset
  • Experience teaching or mentoring adult learners either in a formal educational setting or in the workplace; post-secondary teaching experience would be considered an asset
  • Possess excellent leadership skills with a strong commitment to academic excellence and student success
  • Excellent organizational, presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills are required
