About the Role

The Instructional Designer designs and develops learning experiences and talent solutions for our HR and business stakeholders. This role focuses on skill-building for a variety of roles and organizational levels. To succeed in this position, you’ll need to use critical thinking skills for complex business challenges, focusing on the learner to deliver fit-for-purpose experiences in various modalities. Excellent writing skills, a deep understanding of editorial process and governance and sensitivity to how adults learn best are core requirements for the job. Candidates should be adaptable and comfortable working with ambiguous environments, and have a consultative, responsive approach to working with our clients. 

The ideal candidate knows how to take ownership of an innovative learning solution, leading a project from start to finish, all while empowering the team of SMEs, stakeholders, and project members to collaborate and win together. 

Role Activities

  • Conduct needs analysis to determine core audience, performance and learning gaps, job tasks, learner environment and audit current content and learning assets.
  • Analyze data and other inputs to understand the full context for the learning challenge.
  • Identify core business goals and learning objectives, determining instructional strategies, and learning solutions.
  • Use design thinking and rapid prototyping to assess possible solutions, uncover assumptions, and pivot the approach for maximum learning impact. 
  • Design and develop learning solutions utilizing modern learning methods to ensure learning initiatives produce the desired changes in mindset, behavior, knowledge, and skills.
  • Collaborate with global teams and subject matter experts on learning design, development, and delivery, developing and editing content and supporting assets through to the entire process.
  • Create and maintain all design documents and deliverables, including storyboards, video scripts project plans, and other artifacts.
  • Design and conduct feedback mechanisms (focus groups, pilots), and prioritize outputs for enhanced learning, analyzing program data to make recommendations for continuous improvement.

What We Seek

  • Bachelor's degree. (Related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.)
  • 2-5 years progressive work experience in instructional design or learning. (Related experience will be considered.)
  • Proven content development skills, combining creative and critical thinking skills to create wireframes, outlines, storyboards, and all types of content deliverables needed in the design process.
  • Demonstrated capability to transform business specific content into informative, engaging and memorable learning experiences via different modalities including synchronous and asynchronous e-Learning, videos, and job aids, with an eye for consistency and strategic use of content.
  • Comfortable with ADDIE and conversant in other methodologies, including SAM, agile or lean approaches.
  • Strong interest in continuous learning with knowledge of evolving trends in the field of learning and organizational psychology.
  • Eagerness to explore innovative techniques to deliver cutting edge design solutions.
  • Experienced with MS Teams and expert with the Microsoft 365 toolset, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Great communication skills across all levels of the organization.

Preferred Experience

  • Degree or certificate in a related field (Learning/Education, Instructional Systems/Design, Human Performance and Improvement.)
  • Conversant with instructional authoring tools such as MS Powerpoint, Articulate Storyline 360 and/or Adobe Suite or video production toolsets. Knowledge of Cornerstone and other learning technologies helpful.
  • Prior Insurance experience not required but helpful.
  • AI or AI prompt experience helpful.
