JDC Entwine's Director of External Relations will manage Entwine’s fundraising activities in close partnership with the Executive Director, the Senior Director of Strategy and Planning, The Senior Director of Programs, and JDC's Resource Development department. The Director will enable Entwine's continued growth by implementing Entwine's fundraising strategy alongside JDC's Resource Development team. The Director will coordinate Entwine's programmatic priorities and strategy with JDC's Resource Development department, working towards the realization of projected revenue targets for institutional funders, Jewish federations, and individual donors.

What will you do as a Director of External Relations?

  • Work closely with Entwine's Executive Director and JDC's Resource Development staff to implement Entwine's annual fundraising strategy in alignment with Entwine's programmatic priorities
  • Manage Entwine's overall revenue picture, tracking progress against annual goals in partnership with Entwine’s Budget Analyst
  • Create powerful and compelling written materials (narratives, slide decks, etc) that will be used for funding proposals, progress reports, and generally to present Entwine's work
  • Act as a JDC Entwine representative with a variety of external stakeholders, including but not limited to written communication and virtual and in-person donor meetings
  • Work closely with senior JDC Resource Development professionals to ensure that they have all tools and resources needed to raise funds for Entwine from new and existing donors
  • Manage an additional Entwine staff person who will assist with Entwine’s resource development efforts
  • Manage Entwine's presence at JDC's quarterly Board meetings
  • Lead the ongoing planning and management of Entwine's Board Committee (a Committee of JDC's Board of Directors)
  • Aid senior JDC Resource Development professionals in developing and implementing stewardship strategies for current Entwine donors, with the aim of maintaining high levels of engagement and increasing giving over time
  • Contribute to grant management to ensure timely reporting and communication
  • Organize and attend funder briefings/meetings alongside Entwine's Executive Director
  • Utilize creative methodologies and vehicles to enable potential and current funders to experience JDC Entwine's work
  • Lead, implement, and grow Entwine's annual alumni fundraising campaign
  • Staff Entwine Insider Trips (often, but not limited to, trips supported by key funders)
  • Staff Entwine engagement events as needed (often, but not limited to, events supported by key funders)
  • Be a ‘JDC Entwine’ expert by maintaining a high-level understanding of 1) goals and programming, and 2) communicating the work of the department and JDC through an ‘Entwine’ lens and perspective
  • Maintain an understanding of young adult initiatives and programming from other Jewish organizations
  • One of Entwine’s core values is staff growth and development. Entwine has created competencies for each role. We expect that employees at the Director level will remain in their roles for an average of 2-4 years at which point they will be expected to have mastered these competencies

What qualifications are required to be our Director of External Relations?

  • Professional fundraising experience in roles at the level of a Development Manager/equivalent or above, including frontline fundraising
  • Strategic thinking skills and creativity; able to view the big picture of priorities across the Entwine program and JDC’s Resource Development team and identify fundraising opportunities to meet the need
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with significant experience writing grants/donor reports
  • Strong storytelling skills, able to craft compelling narratives to generate enthusiasm and buy-in for Entwine’s mission
  • Presentation skills and experience presenting to both internal and external audiences
  • Highly organized with impeccable project management skills and proactivity
  • High proficiency using fundraising CRMs, such as Salesforce, NXT, or Raiser's Edge
  • Excellent knowledge of the North American Jewish philanthropic landscape and funding community
  • Ability to travel domestically 4-5 times and overseas 2-3 times annually
  • Ability to read words and numbers
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment
  • Ability to communicate in person or over the telephone

Additional Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience raising funds for Jewish non-profits
  • An established network of contacts and relationships
  • Familiarity with Israel and the overseas Jewish world
  • Passion for humanitarian work and/or global Jewish service strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree, graduate degree, and/or CFRE designation

Additional Details

  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Hours: 35 hours/week, 8:45 AM – 4:45PM with a 1-hour lunch break
  • Location: Hybrid from New York, NY in office Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Reports to: Executive Director, JDC Entwine
  • Job Function/Department: Entwine
  • Other: Travel approx. 6-8 times/year

What are the compensation and benefits for a Director of External Relations?

This is a full-time position paid semi-monthly at a salary of $110,000-$130,000 per year; in determining where a candidate falls in that range JDC considers several factors, including skills and experience, internal equity, and cost of living in location of work. This role is exempt per the FLSA.
