The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

3M is seeking a Senior Product Manager to join the Corporate Research Systems Lab (CRSL) to lead the creation and evolution of technology solutions that balance near-term business and technology needs and opportunities with long-term scalability, resilience, and low operating cost. The technical product manager establishes, owns, and evolves the unique function and business value of a complex product or set of products, relative to other technology products and services. A wide-ranging technical and domain expertise among business and research partners is needed to maximize the value of products and services through thoughtful data driven problem solving and functional influence among peer teams and organizations. As part of an agile team, you will enable applications in diverse markets including energy, manufacturing, personal safety, transportation, electronics, and consumer.

To be successful, the technical product manager needs to have significant technical and business acumen along with a strong product management background, with demonstrated experience in shaping a product or service’s function within a larger enterprise technology context:

  • Builds the roadmap for a portfolio of products and services, informed by technology trends and business strategy, in partnership with peer technology, product management, and leadership teams.
  • Prioritizes and directs the creation of feature requirements with functional and non-functional focus, in alignment with optimal customer experience and long-term business strategy.
  • Drives solution and requirement decisions by providing technical consultation and direction to stakeholders.
  • Oversees creation of acceptance criteria/requirements and prioritization of backlogs to align with customer, business, and technical strategy goals.
  • Accountable for performance of portfolio of products and services against business and technical (non-functional) requirements using product health and performance metrics and KPIs to measure performance against feature goals.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in managing product delivery and release in an agile private, public, government or military environment.
  • Three (3) years of experience in an enterprise technology environment delivering products in a product management role within a private, public, government or military environment.
  • Three (3) years of experience working with modeling and High-Performance Computing solutions in a private, public, government or military environment.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Prior experience leading the design, execution, and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide, complex products and/or services while influencing and gaining the support of key stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of the system architecture and design concepts behind complex, enterprise-class software solutions with ability to facilitate conversation on the value and potential of emerging technologies and solutions.
  • Experience identifying new product opportunities and improving existing products while future-proofing solutions for business growth, scalability, resilience, and low operating cost.
  • Strong communication in storytelling with the ability to listen to understand business needs in order to incorporate industry & market insights for problem solving.
  • Knowledge on experimentations around research methodologies in order to create and validate business case through journey mapping, concept prototypes, design thinking workshops, human centered design, roadmap/model design, scaling innovation, and intellectual property creation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, team building, and communication skills to ensure effective collaborations with matrixed teams.

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $133,435 - $163,088, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
