What you’ll do: 

  • Our Directors are responsible for high-level project delivery and oversight along with client relationship management. You will manage teams and advise clients at the highest strategic level on both big-picture and tactical matters, focusing on how technology enables a wide range of business outcomes.
  • This position is for a Director within our Technology Spending Optimization capability based in Gartner’s India Center of Excellence (COE) in Gurgaon, India. Our Consulting COE supports Gartner Consulting businesses in North America, EMEA and Asia Pacific.
  • You will be primarily responsible for project delivery along with client relationship management.
  • You will manage project teams and advise clients at the highest strategic level on both big-picture and tactical matters, focusing on how technology enables a wide range of business outcomes.
  • More specifically, you will be: 
  • Leading project teams and project/engagement planning and management for complex full-lifecycle global sourcing engagements, being responsible for: 
  • Managing complex engagements, potentially simultaneously, including timeline, budget and people 
  • Drive delivery of high-quality deliverables, in accordance with client expectations and predetermined timelines and budgets 
  • Developing verbal and written project communications to client project teams and senior executives 
  • Monitoring and addressing project risk mitigation activities to ensure risks are satisfactorily addressed 
  • Planning and facilitating critical meetings with the client’s project team(s) 
  • Ensuring client receives status updates and identified problems are solved 
  • Monitoring clients’ expectations and partnering with senior team members to revise project scope when appropriate 
  • Anticipating and addressing customer service requirements 
  • Provide upward feedback to more senior team members, when relevant 
  • Providing thought leadership and delivery excellence within one’s area of expertise by performing the following activities: 
  • Contributing expertise/insight to the delivery of solutions 
  • Keeping current on technologies/trends in one’s area of expertise domain 
  • Proactively sharing knowledge within and outside of engagement setting 
  • Harvest intellectual capital from own engagements and share with industry/ practice experts
  • Perform QA of critical project deliverables to ensure quality and timeliness of COE associate deliverables to regional project teams
  • Contributing to business building activities, including: 
  • Partnering with subject matter experts and managing partners to develop long-term client relationships during and outside of an engagement leading to repeat/new business opportunities 
  • Contributing to the (1) development of proposals; (2) scoping and qualifying opportunities and (3) assisting with identifying optimal client solutions by communicating the Gartner value proposition 
  • Participating and actively supporting recruiting efforts to help the business grow 
  • Performing Technology Spending Optimization Capability management activities including:
  • Support NA and EMEA Managing Practice Leads with practice initiatives
  • Leading and managing practice aligned associates including:
  • Onboarding new COE practice associates
  • Coaching and developing junior associates to build industry/ practice specific knowledge
  • Formal mentoring/ counseling responsibilities and annual performance evaluations
  • Leading/ coordinating with region resource management teams to drive staffing of COE practice associates
  • External – Support relationships with CIOs/CxOs at key clients when needed

What you’ll need:

  • 12-15 overall and 5-10 years of experience developing programs of cost optimization, including benchmarking capabilities for both internal IT Spending & Staffing and IT Services Contract fees
  • Ability to analyze problems - natural aptitude for critical thinking, analytical models and financial analysis
  • Ability to synthesis and translate complex technical aspects into business terms and define from business objectives and constraints complex technical solutions
  • Skilled at managing client situations under pressure, including conflict management and political sensitive situation handling
  • Ability to inspire confidence and trust at all levels, including executive level
  • Trustworthy and perceptive, with effective use of judgment
  • Ability to help international and multicultural client teams make quick informed decisions while being comfortable about them
  • Autonomous, positive thinker, highly flexible and a true team player
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Familiarity with IT service management, service integration, ITIL and COBIT
  • Experienced working with large data sets 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Expert practitioner in the use of MS Office suite of products, especially Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to reuse institutional intellectual property and research and adapt to client specific circumstances 
  • Having an experience in working under an ISO Certified Quality Management System would be a plus
  • Problem-solving capabilities such as solutioning services to meet client needs
  • Ability to influence and build trust-based, value-added relationships with senior executives, both internally and externally 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Mathematics or another quantitative discipline. MBA or another graduate degree is a plus
  • Prior experience in a problem-solving capacity such as a solution/technical architect or analyst (preferred)
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and the creative development of solutions and strategies to solve client problems. Must adapt Gartner frameworks and methodologies to strike at the heart of a client’s most pressing business challenges
