About the role:

As a Sr. Manager, Design Systems, you will work in close alignment and collaboration with the Director of Design Systems and the UX Leadership team. Your mission is to help increase the quality, impact, and adoption of Target’s Design Systems across multiple products and platforms (web, mobile web, iOS and Android). In this role, you will guide your team to create Design kits, libraries, and documentation for commonly used primitives, components, patterns, and templates. You will have a high bar for craft, an eye for elevated user experiences, an ability to innovate while ensuring strong systems mindset, and champion the strength of the Target brand.

Success for this role requires the ability to understand the company’s products and processes, think boldly about the future of Design Systems as a critical capability, and influence a vast array of diverse stakeholders from Product, Engineering, and UX. You will guide to deliver high-quality outcomes in the near-term while simultaneously contributing to the long-term strategy for scaling our Design Systems over the coming years.

Responsibilities:

  • Build, manage, and nurture strong cooperative relationships with business and tech partners from both guest and enterprise who are the ultimate consumers/investors of the Design System
  • Understand partners goals, objectives, perspectives, concerns, challenges, specific product requirements and balance implementation with the design system
  • Facilitate collaborative sessions between various subject matter experts (SME's) and partners to build solutions for complex issues and communicate dependencies, risks, issues and scope
  • Assess the adoption of the design system and recommend methods to further drive adoption across the supported platforms
  • Collaborate with UX practitioners and leaders to drive the Design System innovation, adoption and tech implementation initiatives
  • Influence the growth, scalability and maturity of the Design System to meet the demands of the lines of business, designers and engineers
  • Lead and inspire a team of high-performing designers

About you:

  • 8+ years of experience evolving and scaling high-performing design systems in a highly matrixed company
  • 3+ years of experience in people leadership, with experience in hiring, leading, and coaching high performing teams
  • Solid understanding of Design Systems - creating, designing, governing, and scaling reusable component libraries - and an ability to communicate its value to a large, complex organizations
  • Understanding of best practices and process around governance and maintenance of large-scale design systems
  • Influence strategy by developing partnerships, engaging and collaborating effectively with design, product, and engineering
  • Operate comfortably in agile environments (e.g. sprints), helping the team prioritize work considering needs, resources and capacity
