Senior Director, Game Design

Summary

We are seeking a Senior Director of Game Design for our Board Games division. The candidate will lead our talented game design team in conceiving, developing, and publishing innovative board games. Leadership scope will include providing creative oversight to design work in addition to administrative activities such as balancing workloads, managing budgets, and executing a functional strategy.

What You’ll Do

Functional Leadership

  • Develop and execute a strategic vision for Game Design, ensuring all projects align with company goals, player expectations, and market demands.
  • Cultivate a deep understanding of our brand and business objectives, translating them into actionable plans for the Game Design team.
  • Represent the voice of Game Design in high-level meetings, ensuring alignment across all business functions.

Organizational Administration

  • Directly lead Design Managers, Principal Designers, and the broader Game Design team.
  • Set clear objectives, standards of quality, and foster a collaborative cross-functional culture.
  • Regularly review team deliverables, ensuring progress is practical, efficient, and aligned with product briefs.
  • Oversee the Game Design budget, ensuring optimal resource allocation and fiscal responsibility.

Innovation

  • Build a robust pipeline of game concepts, advising the team's focus and efforts on projects that align with strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with other senior leaders and external partners, ensuring Hasbro remains at the forefront of the game industry.
  • Facilitate the inventor concept intake process, cultivate strong relationships with the inventor community, and drive healthy decision-making for concept selection.
  • Remain informed on industry shifts, market trends, and technological advancements.
  • Encourage the transformation of insights into actionable concepts, fostering a culture of continuous evolution to keep our games both relevant and captivating.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • 10 years of experience in consumer products design leading a an organization of 15 individuals 
  • Expert knowledge of game theory and common mechanics.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present ideas clearly and convincingly.
  • Strong strategic foresight and the ability to craft a vision for the future, inspire team alignment, and execute efficiently and with urgency.
  • Ability to influence cross-functionally, including graphic design, narrative design, marketing, engineering, and product management.
  • Must be local or willing to relocate to RI
