About the Role

We’re looking for a hard working illustrator and art director who can bring the brand to life across all our customer touch points (product, digital, and print). This role will be an advocate and point of contact for illustration across the entire organization, collaborating with international marketing and product teams. As a member of the Brand Experiences team, they will lead the management, direction and growth of a roster of best-in-class freelancers and agencies. They’ll also get hands-on with high priority projects, setting the bar for craft and quality through execution. And while we have a brand illustration style, we’re always looking for new ways to evolve and change as business goals and cultural value's shift - embracing new technologies and creative techniques to do so at the speed of business.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate and ideate with multidisciplinary teams including copywriters, communication designers, illustrators, motion & animation designers, environments designers, brand strategists, marketing managers, and creative directors to build and maintain visual brand excellence for a wide range of needs.
  • Understand and help define illustration briefs and requirements before completing.
  • Manage, direct, and grow freelance illustrators and agencies to meet business needs.
  • Brainstorm and iterate with the creative team and brand leadership to help elevate and evolve illustration at Uber.
  • Develop art for product, digital, and print communications where ideas can work globally, scale locally, and adapt for a variety of surfaces and use cases.
  • Develop resources, guidelines, and templates that empower the global marketing and product teams to use illustration in impactful and resonant ways.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years in the design and illustration industry.
  • Expertise in Figma and Adobe Creative suite applications.
  • Creative expertise with impeccable attention to detail and file organization.
  • A portfolio of illustration work that aligns with the Uber illustration style.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working collaboratively with business and marketing leaders and stakeholders; receiving feedback and adapting work.
  • Experience leading large projects; ability to balance business and technical requirements, and comfort with ambiguity and changes in direction.
  • Be familiar with illustration licensing and commercial illustration to manage some of the production side of hiring illustration support.
  • Experience in campaign creative with an understanding of how to scale ideals globally.
  • Expertise in illustration within UI product design.
  • Experience with generative A.I. image creation tools.
  • Degree in design, communications, marketing; or equivalent.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity of After Effects and Lottie or directing motion graphics and animation.
  • Experience with digital marketing channels (Web, Email, in-app, SMS/PUSH, paid social and display).
  • Working knowledge of Google Docs and Slides.
  • Thrives in fast paced environments and can stay calm in complicated/complex situations.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$152,000 per year - USD$169,000 per year.
