The VP Product Management position is responsible for maximizing and accelerating commercial and clinical value creation of Dexcom G Series and D Series product lines. Additionally, this key position is responsible for close collaboration with Dexcom Research & Development, Product & Channel Marketing and Global Commercial Leadership to ensure continuous innovation, as well as category leadership. 

The VP Product Management role is wholly accountable for the upstream marketing outcomes of their product lines worldwide, and will work in a highly collaborative way with partners across functions and geographies to inspire alignment around the product vision, strategy, roadmap, as well as track successes and failures, share lessons learned, and continuously and proactively work to accelerate product and commercial impact.

This leader understands the broad definition of “customer” as decision-makers who influence choice for Dexcom products and takes responsibility for setting the definition of competitive advantage across customer segments, channels, and geographies. They also have a deep understanding of relevant market space, products and services, competitive offerings, and relevant healthcare industry trends, and are the internal champion for the Dexcom G and D Series product lines. 

Where you come in:

  • You will lead the commercial product development process, from ideation through regulatory filing, for the Dexcom portfolio of consumer-focused products.
  • You are responsible for leading all components of Commercial Product Development (“upstream marketing”) for Consumer portfolio.
  • You partner with the Product & Channel Marketing lead, and with deep marketplace insights, establish long-term and short-term strategic product development plans to deliver on Dexcom commercial objectives, including sales and market share commitments across HCP, End-User, Payer/Health Plans, and Distributor customers.
  • You partner with R&D and Marketing in the development of product requirements, priorities, and plans to achieve commercial objectives; represent the worldwide and cross-channel “voice of the customer” and commercial point of view.
  • You synthesize the insights and inputs across functions and geographies to deliver timely, data-driven, value-creating product and portfolio recommendations.
  • You align the organization leadership on product vision, strategy, and roadmap, both short- and long-range, to support company objectives.
  • You partner closely with Market Research and Market Analytics functions to analyze results and drivers and to continuously understand technological, demographic, competitive, health economic, and other macro factors impacting market opportunities and risks for this product line. 
  • You determine factors/attributes that drive customer decisions, and identify opportunities for product differentiation on these most important factors. Clarify the unequivocal promotable advantage.
  • You identify the required product data and evidence generation needs to support product differentiation and promotional claims, and collaborate effectively across clinical, market access, legal, regulatory, and other functions as needed to ensure market-leading evidence generation and dissemination. 
  • You work closely with Corporate Development, R&D, Product Design, Program Management, Legal, Operations, Clinical and Regulatory teams to incubate new ideas into viable business opportunities, claims, and product or service offerings.
  • You lead cross-functional product development, design, and life cycle management: Partner closely with Marketing and Sales teams, and with Program Management to execute all phases of the product lifecycle, from product launch, through expansion, optimization, and eventual obsolescence.
  • You demonstrate the need/level of investment to expand and optimize product lines, working closely with Market Insights/Analytics and Finance functions to demonstrate sound business cases for investment.
  • You are responsible for understanding and complying with quality standards and requirements as documented.

In addition, the ideal candidate should bring the following function-specific capabilities and experiences: 

  • Typically 20+ years of product management experience with at least 5 years of experience in diabetes and/or medical device marketing or a product management leadership role, and 15+ years of successful leadership experience plus a Bachelor’s degree; MBA preferred. 
  • Deep knowledge of business strategy, market research, marketing, product management, design, and development.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and use influence management effectively with cross-functional partners and senior management.
  • Strong analytical skills, and high facility to drive decision-making of future innovative technologies, even in situations of uncertainty.
  • High comfort with ambiguity, and ability to lead and drive hypothesis-drive problem solving.
  • Strong communication skills, high energy; executive presence.

Travel Required:

  • The position is based in San Diego, CA, with global responsibilities, and requires at least 25% travel, depending on candidate’s home location. Dexcom supports remote work for employees. At the same time, this pivotal leadership role must have the ability to be present in San Diego offices at least 25% of the time, and travel as needed to customer-facing and internal meetings worldwide.
