Overview: 

In this role, the Principal Engineer (Test Rigs & Testing, Mechanical) will be responsible for Mechanical Test Rigs Design & Development, design verification/qualification testing of various Actuation Systems product lines including Power Door Opening System (PDOS), Thrust Reverser Actuation Systems (TRAS) and High lift Flap and Slat Actuation systems and will actively participate in NPI (New Product Introduction), redesign and technology programs of Collins Aerospace Actuation Systems business unit.

Position: Principal Engineer (P4) - Mechanical Test Engineer

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Expertise in complete aerospace product development.
  • Assesses design to avoid conflicts in design process, including detailed Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and other methods of determining and addressing technical risks.
  • Develops test rig specification and conceptual design for hydraulic and electronic circuits and its corresponding system architecture by understanding customer requirements.
  • Should be coordinating with suppliers and relevant stake holders.
  • Performing functional and Design verification testing.
  • Lead the safe conduct of testing and performing risk assessment.
  • Management of budget, facility, and resources within existing lab environment.
  • Lead Failure analysis and shall drive the team to identify the root cause and corrective action.
  • Expertise in reviewing in qualification documents.
  • Ensures compliance with RTCA D0-160 regulatory specifications and customer requirements.
  • Detailed Understanding on the DO-160, ARP 4754, MIL standards and the requirements.
  • Drive the team in continuous improvement activities like QCPC, RCA, VSM.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor/master’s degree in mechanical / aerospace engineering or equivalent.
  • 13 to 16 years of industry experience in verification and validation related activities.

Preferred Experience / Skills:

  • 12+yrs in aerospace verification and validation activities.
  • Experience in Aerospace Products and DO-160 requirements.
  • Techniques and skills required to identify a root cause analysis of problems.
  • Strong knowledge on hydraulics concepts and its system is must, a certification on hydraulics with Closed Loop Control will be an added advantage.
  • Fundamental knowledge in LabVIEW desirable.
  • Fundamental knowledge in electrical and electronics concepts is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge in instrumentation and calibration of instruments.
  • Should be able to Coach, reviews, and delegates work to lower-level professionals.
  • Influences others regarding policies, practices, and procedures.
