The Business Analyst role will be based in San Mateo and will be responsible for strategic and project support for IAS’ Retail and Institutional Channels.  This role is part of a small team that share a multitude of responsibilities helping execute on strategic plans of both IAS and the FRI organization.  The candidate must remain flexible and open to new thinking and methodologies, and be very organized. This person must demonstrate the ability to partner with multiple internal teams, display a positive and persistent attitude and a results-oriented mindset.
 
The ideal candidate is smart, engaged and versatile and must be passionate about learning, growing, and succeeding in the financial services industry. Candidate must be extremely well organized and ready to work in a fast-paced, environment to support the International Sales Division for a global Fortune 500 organization. Exceptional communication skills are a must, along with the ability to manage projects to tight deadlines under pressure while keeping a keen eye on all the details.
 
This role will also require individual to lead and support various other initiatives within IAS, Business Planning and Development efforts, Financials, Management & Metrics reporting, IAS operational efforts, Technology projects, and various other local and regional projects as needed. 
 
  1. Job Duties/ Responsibilities
 
Individual will be responsible for handling multiple analytical Sale-related projects. The position will also involve taking a lead within project work for IAS’ Channel teams as well as a great deal of Front Office interaction, questions and queries. The role requires very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a global team environment, and requires knowledge of markets, the international distribution landscape and cross border products. This role also requires forward-thinking and the ability to work issues through with various internal cross-functional teams.  
Business Planning, Budgets and Strategic Support
  • Research/Review IAS sales activity and business highlights to FRI DRG and Management Committee, after assessment of which activities are value-add; Leverage this and other sources to gather and report quarterly highlights for use during quarterly leaders’ call and analyst conference calls.
  • Strategy documents, presentations, commitment pack etc.
  • Budgets:
    • Working with Channel Heads leadership team, prepare annual department expense budgets;
    • Ad hoc budget, forecasting and strategy documentation, as requested.
    • Work with IBDG Financials teams to produce and update financial reports for Retail and Institutional Channels
Global Financial Institutions and Product Reporting
  • Ownership of Global Financial Institutions Product Plan including but not limited to the following:
    • Research and integration of the latest views from Global Financial Institutions (GFI) partners into a centralized matrix to provide Sales Team with a current view of the product sectors, asset allocation views/summary, and what each GFI is favoring.
    • Assimilate the individual GFI product plans and Approval Fund Master List with latest product developments including approvals, recommendations, pending approvals, and removals for each GFI and regional institutions.
    • Formulate and analyze management reporting, and in-field sales/reporting documents to aid staff and management in keeping up-to-date on the GFI client activities.
    • Partner with Sales team to produce and enhance sales & marketing reports and documents for client and sales meetings
  • Responsible for full integration and production of Firm Profiles, Americas Flyers, and other ad hoc reports
 
Project Management Business Support
  • Project Management - plan, oversee and document all aspects of various Retail and Institutional initiatives. Work closely with upper management to make sure that the scope and direction of each project is on schedule, as well as leverage other departments for support. Run project meetings including agendas, handle communication, meeting materials, minutes and action items to keep all projects on track. Expected to be leading or involved with 10-20 projects at any given time.
  • Identify and champion opportunities within IAS’ business interactions to increase service offerings, improve efficiencies, evolve workflows, etc. Help develop and implement solutions to critical business issues.  Conduct industry market analysis and research for the identification of new business opportunities.
  • Build key partnerships across levels and functions to gain from their perspectives and cultivate communication. Partner with others inside and outside IAS to achieve common goals and foster an environment of teamwork and cooperation. Develop and foster relationships with Sales Management and staff.  Be a reliable single-point-of-contact for other Franklin Templeton cross-functional business units to help them effectively navigate IAS structure and our international business. Understand the decision-making dynamics of IAS, as well as other business units, and implement successful tactics. Provide solutions to complex problems and work to resolve difficult issues between involved parties.
  • Develop initiatives tracking for Channel Head Teams for all IAS retail and institutional initiatives.
    Other
  • SMO Client Visits: facilitate client meetings with PMs and other FT business leaders for key clients who visit SMO Headquarters. Attend PM Meetings with clients, Ensure client objectives are met, understand and address client needs, and debrief with international Relationship Managers following the meeting.
  • Leverage cross-functional work being done in other departments, and across regions (EMEA, Asia, U.S., Latin America) and apply appropriately; Partner with other Shared Services groups with an eye towards multi-use content or best practices. Includes participation in global communication forums.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree BA/BS in Business, Economics, Finance or Marketing preferred.
  • 5+ years business administration or analyst experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, vocabulary and spelling
  • Financial industry and product knowledge required
  • Project coordination, organization, and execution experience.
  • Experience and understanding of the Franklin Templeton business model (or similar investment management firm).
  • Sales and/or marketing experience preferred.
  • Experience in the mutual fund/ financial services industry desired
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Outlook; MS-Project, MS Access;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Company management and outside business associates

  • Must be comfortable in a flexible environment, as work duties and responsibilities change quite frequently based on business needs at any given time.  The nature of a small team also requires flexibility in the type of work being done – as a liaison or coordinator, or in an administrative capacity.
  • Must work effectively in a team and be comfortable in a “virtual” team setting whereby team members and management are spread across the globe, mostly communicating via telephone, email etc.
 
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Experience with Powerpoint presentations, charting, analytics, metrics
  • Editing and copyediting experience
  • Background in project management involving various business functions helpful
  • Solid knowledge of Franklin Templeton organizational structure

  • Ability to attend conference calls in the early morning or late evening (6-8 AM and/or 6-10 PM)
