Job Summary

The Sr. Analyst, Trade Settlement Management is the subject matter expert of this team and has in depth knowledge of all strategies and investment products traded by Investment Management as well as detailed knowledge of all processes and procedures performed by the team. They must possess a general understanding of functions outside of the department such as accounting, valuation and performance in order to understand and validate the impact of the team’s functions on downstream processes. They act as the first point of contact to Investment Management and other internal clients within HOOPP. The Sr. Analyst, Trade Settlement Management provides direction and guidance to junior staff members particularly with respect to new products, strategies and processes. They are also responsible for reviewing and approving the work of junior staff members to ensure the accuracy, completeness and integrity of all capital markets activity that is captured in HOOPP’s investment book of records, Simcorp Dimension as well as HOOPP’s external custodian, Northern Trust. 

What you will do:

  • Ensure that all market trades, collateral and securities lending/borrowing transactions are settled. This requires liaising with the custodian and often requires quick decision making in order to minimize potential loss to HOOPP.
  • Build and transfer knowledge and understanding of complex instruments and processes to Analysts on the team.
  • Act as resource to junior staff members by providing guidance and back-up for critical daily activities.
  • Review and approve the work of Analysts on the team.
  • Provide evidence of supervision and oversight by ensuring daily and monthly controls such as process checklists and documentation are signed off.
  • Ensure that HOOPP complies with all industry regulations regarding trade matching and settlement by keeping informed on industry standards.
  • Ensure the Securities Standard Settlement Instructions (SSIs) of HOOPP’s dealing parties are accurately maintained. Oversee the documentation and callback process for new and amended instructions, ensuring completion in accordance with HOOPP’s Policy.
  • Contribute to operational process improvement and controls initiatives to increase efficiencies and mitigate operational risk
  • Work collaboratively with other groups in the Finance Division, Investment Management and IT to solution and operationalize new initiatives, strategies and products; participate in testing of new processes and system upgrades as they relate to Trade Settlement activities.
  • Resolve operational issues on a timely basis, escalate as needed and contribute to finding resolutions to minimize re-occurrence of similar issues going forward.
  • Monitor all marketable positions to ensure the integrity and accuracy is maintained and to explain movements within strategies
  • Make recommendation on job responsibilities within the department
  • Perform periodic reviews to procedures and processes to comply with ICFR and internal/external audit requirements.
  • Act as back up to the Associate Director when required.

What you bring:

  • University degree in Business or related discipline
  • Completion or enrolment in a professional designation program (CFA,CMA)
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in the financial sector, preferably in Securities Settlement
  • Strong knowledge of capital market instruments including fixed income and equities gained through industry experience
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proactive self-starter who is highly motivated and results oriented
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness is very important along with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Identify and implement process improvements where necessary
  • Willing to assume other responsibilities as required
  • Knowledge of investment accounting standards & principles, valuations and P/L calculations
  • Knowledge of trade settlement market best practices
  • Relevant computer literacy is mandatory
