GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Patient Care Services Finance and Analytics provides review, analysis, and evaluation of management data, systems and programs to support the leadership of Patient Care Services in assuring effective decision-making and optimum utilization of personnel, material, and financial resources.

The Senior Data Analyst provides advanced-level analysis and reports that support clinical and operational programs and activities; works independently to design and create data models, document data requirements and develop data reporting systems; demonstrates initiative and creativity in accessing, aggregating and analyzing data; and provides support to customers and colleagues in managing and interpreting data. This requires the ability to engage in systematic problem solving and innovative thinking; attention to detail; customer focus and excellent communication; and a tolerance for ambiguity, changing priorities and unexpected events.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Accesses data from a variety of sources, including but not limited to various hospital and departmental information systems, and develops mechanisms for validating and integrating the data.
  • Creates, maintains and/or utilizes databases to provide information and analysis that can be used in evaluation, planning and decision-making.
  • Develops reporting structures using business intelligence tools that synthesize data from various sources and highlight key metrics to inform decision-making.
  • Produces timely and accurate regular and ad hoc reports; integrates and automates management data, analytics and metrics in management reports.
  • Provides data analysis using standard statistical methodologies, including but not limited to trending and forecasting, frequencies and correlations, cost benefit analysis and regression analysis.
  • Assures accuracy and integrity of data and analysis.
  • Contributes data and information to support Patient Care Services leadership in the development of the annual budget, evaluation of resource utilization, measurement of productivity, management of personnel, interpretation of management reports and implementation of priority initiatives.
  • Responds promptly and effectively to customers and colleagues, clarifying requests and providing guidance and suggestions to assure that the resultant information appropriately addresses the issue under investigation.
  • Communicates and coordinates with other department (e.g., finance, personnel, information systems) to assure availability, accuracy and timeliness of shared data and information.
  • Demonstrates strong computer skills and serves as resource to colleagues and others on matters pertaining to data management and analysis; effectively trains end-users on reporting tools.
  • Responsible for enhancing automation of standard reporting.
  • Compiles and submits data for specific accrual accounts and reconciles to accounts payable ledgers.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Healthcare Analytics, or other related field required; Master’s Degree strongly preferred.

  • 3-5 years experience and demonstrated competency in:
  • Data management and reporting tools such as SQL Management Studio or VS Code
  • SQL Server databases or Snowflake DB environment,
  • Programming using Python, R or SAS
  • Ability to assess work, set priorities, respond to changing situations, and manage time appropriately to meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, organized, attentive to detail.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and with individuals at all levels within the institution.
  • Customer-focused, with effective communication techniques

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: 

  • Strong computer skills, including T-SQL, Python, R, Excel, statistical analysis packages, and data management and presentation programs.
  • Strong data visualization skills, including Tableau, PowerBI, Plotly
  • Logical thinking with strong mathematical, statistical and fiscal analytic skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing, interpreting, reporting and presenting data.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships.

Hybrid - approximately 80% remote 20% on-site.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: List the number of FTEs supervised.

None.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Indicate financial “scope” information, i.e.: size of budget, volume, revenue, etc.

Provides support in the preparation of the annual operating and capital equipment budget; develops and prepares a variety of regular and ad hoc fiscal accounting reports.
