The Ann Arbor office of SmithGroup is looking for a Senior Landscape Architect Designer to join our team. 

Working with us, you will:

  • Supervise the preparation of landscape architectural drawing for all phases, including proposal presentations, concept, schematics, design documents, construction cost estimates, and construction documents.
  • Establish and guide the vision of the design on projects. 
  • Direct team members and others in the application of landscape architectural standards and guidelines. 
  • Lead the design efforts through all stages of a project, including leadership with the client, contractors, and internal team. 
  • Conduct quality control review of others' projects. 
  • Anticipate and plan ahead for potential roadblocks on agency approvals. 
  • Manage contractor and client relations during construction for larger and more complex projects. 
  • Consult with product manufacturers, evaluate and select construction materials. 
  • Determine content of design presentations to client representatives and/or design review committees, and present them. 
  • Conduct design work sessions and visioning, outreach, and public forms. 
  • Participate in marketing efforts including proposal development, interview participation and presentations (this includes proposal writing and scope and fee negotiation). 
  • Mentor junior staff and participate in performance coaching. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with current/new clients. 

An ideal candidate has:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or equivalent.
  • 10 or more years of professional experience.
  • LEED AP preferred. Landscape Architectural registration required.
