The Assistant Director, Undergraduate Admissions plays an active role in the development of the coming year’s class of students. GW welcomes over 50,000 visitors to campus each year through our campus tours and recruitment, and yield events. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to diversity and providing access to higher education. This position will report directly to the Associate Director, Admissions.

Key roles for this position include:

  • Direct or indirect supervision of 50-60 student staff members, possibly including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and continuous training;
  • Collaborative oversight of Public Contact or Recruitment and Outreach operations to ensure compliance with departmental service standards and expectations;
  • Effective management of workflow, as determined by enrollment cycles;
  • Development and execution of subject matter training for professional staff with regard to new programs, policy, and procedural updates or initiatives;
  • Regular communication with Enrollment and Student Success teams, including the Office of Student Financial Assistance, the Office of the Registrar, the Student Financial and Registration Service Hub, and the Office of Diversity Equity and Community Engagement;
  • Serve as a liaison between the Undergraduate Admissions Public Contact or Recruitment & Outreach team(s) and campus partners, to identify collaborative opportunities to ensure the highest quality admissions experience;
  • Increase applications by evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of Public Contact or Recruitment & Outreach programming;
  • Implements process improvements in collaboration with senior staff;
  • Holistic evaluation of first-year and transfer applications; makes recommendations for admissions decisions and determines eligibility for special admissions programs; presents cases in committee;
  • Represent the University both on-campus and off-campus via information sessions, high school visits, college fairs, etc.

The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC but requires significant travel during the recruitment season. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
