Responsibilities Include:

The Product Manager manages the complete life cycle revenue and earnings profile, including developing proposals on what products to develop or obsolete, what markets and playing field to participate in and what areas to exit. They are responsible and accountable for the systematic development of a portfolio of products, including but not limited to their application development in key designated industries. He/she will exploit opportunities amongst related Products and Product Lines and develop proposals for optimizing production sites and will liaise closely with a wide range of both internal and external partners. A key aspect of the role will be the raising of the standards of competence in the product management team, through the development, implementation and management of commercial tools and training to deliver profitable growth. This position holder will always be expected to maintain and promote the highest levels integrity and business ethics.

Duties:

  • Securing Product or Products, order intake and gross margin in line with the annual budget.
  • Securing targeted CAGR for the Product or Products through the professional lifecycle management.
  • Managing market pricing through structured market price analysis and price/volume analysis to ensure that products are competitively priced in their targeted markets and regions.
  • Ensuring that products and solutions are approved and are present on the Approved Vendor Lists of all key customers in the market.
  • Provide contribution to the global product strategy for Product Line Manager approval
  • Have good understanding of key issues customers want to solve to improve their business as well as expressed customer needs and requirements
  • Securing Market Requirement Data, through internal and external studies, to create Market Requirement Specifications that meet customer needs and demands.
  • Monitoring and providing an analysis of product growth and profitability, both short and long term, to recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Conducting regular competitor analysis to ensure that the product continues to deliver Best Available Technology and maximum value to our customers.
  • Actively participating in all market related activities prior to development projects to ensure proper input of market requirements, including service-related products, into proposed product developments for Product Line manager approval.
  • Developing and proposing product development projects within agreed budget frame.
  • Participating in the whole of the New Product Development, (NPI) process, taking responsibility for ensuring all launch materials are prepared in a timely manner for product release approval, including technical manuals, operational manuals, spares list, brochure contents etc.
  • Working with Corporate and Business Unit communications to ensure appropriate level of launch is achieved.
  • Provide application support to Front End Sales as required
  • Recommending component/assembly transfer prices between manufacturing units, for Product Line manager and finally for Business Unit and Division approval
  • Developing and recommending initiatives to optimize competitiveness, i.e. low-cost sourcing.
  • Ensuring compliance with Nidec initiatives on product levels, i.e. naming policy, common look and feel, ease of manufacture etc.
  • Sharing best practices

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in a core industry, and preferably to have worked with an End-user for a period.
  • Excellent understanding of the Product Management role and demonstrate the ability to work in multi-cultural, multi-disciplined teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical field. MBA desirable. 
  • Three to five years of Industrial Motor or Drive products or application experience. 
  • Has a well-developed understanding of marketing, particularly of the capital goods market
  • Project Management and new product introduction experience required. 
  • Sales and profit analysis, advertising and promotion, customer interaction experience preferred.
  • Understanding what makes our customer profitable, i.e. cost drivers
  • Understanding what their value drivers are, i.e. why their customers buy their products
  • Understanding their purchasing process, i.e. how they interpret value
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to Multi-Task
  • Strong interpersonal and persuasion skills
