Job Description

Position Summary: The Youth Development Coordinator will have the sole focus of the spiritual life of the children enrolled in our L.I.F.E. Center program. This includes creatively introducing youth to Christ, discipling youth through the Scriptures, and getting them involved in Dinner Church at the L.I.F.E. Center and in every aspect of life and worship at the Flint Citadel Corps.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Design a system of small group Bible studies that would work with the student schedule.
  • Incentivize participation in these groups and advertise them amongst the students.
  • Disciple students to help them to assume leadership of the small groups.
  • Devise a communication system that will encourage the students to seek help and spiritual guidance.
  • Connect L.I.F.E. Center students to programming at the Citadel Corps to integrate them into the Army.
  • Advertise up to date information about things of interest to the L.I.F.E. Center students.
  • Provide transportation to and from Citadel on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.
  • Provide transportation to other Army events such as divisional camps, Youth Councils, etc.
  • Design relevant worship experiences for Dinner Church.
  • Develop and maintain practical approaches to building solid Christian living among the students.
  • Create an environment where the students feel comfortable asking for prayer and sharing their struggles.
  • Give Christian counsel to students as they face life’s challenges.
  • Participate in the Pastoral Care Council weekly.
  • Meet regularly with the Officers and the Executive Director of L.I.F.E. Center or other staff to discuss programs, challenges, conflicts, schedules, strategies, and goals.
  • Attend church at The Salvation Army Flint Citadel Corps and make it your church home.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience: 

  • High School diploma/GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Salvation Army Soldier and/or familiarity with S.A. Doctrines, etc., required.
  • Training and/or education experience in youth programming, ministry, and/or counseling preferred.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Musical training is a plus.
  • A working knowledge of the Bible is essential.
  • Some evangelism training preferred.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint.
  • Willingness to learn new software as needed.

Certificates and Licenses: 

  • Complete Safe from Harm training and keep current as needed.
  • Must have and maintain a current valid chauffeur’s license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR); or gain the chauffeur’s endorsement within 30 days.
