KBR’s Water Resources team operates within a high-functioning engineering-focused setting and finds practical, cost-effective, and innovative solutions to the environmental and social issues. Our team of engineers, planners, water resource specialists, and community engagement practitioners are experienced in delivering floodplain management, wetland design and drainage design projects throughout Victoria and Australia.

The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking an experienced Principal Wetland Designer to join KBR’s Water Resources team in Melbourne. With recent project wins involving existing wetland rehabilitation, this role offers exposure to major multidisciplinary projects with a large network of clients, stakeholders and skilled professionals. Our multidisciplinary team means we are able to apply a wholistic and integrated approach to engineering solutions, bringing together talented ecologists, water resources engineers, and civil engineers with considerable construction experience. Make a meaningful impact on these projects by steering technical direction; identifying and mitigating risk; and driving innovative solutions on wetland projects, from concept design through to detailed design and construction.

You will collaborate with a national team of Water Resources practitioners, bringing you access to a national pool of project options within a variety of industries and available roles including managing projects and work-winning activities.

Who You Are:

You bring a demonstrated history of working in the field of wetland rehabilitation and/or greenfield wetland design in an engineering consulting environment. You also understand the technical function of wetlands, including common inputs, outputs, design principles and risks; and have an interest in providing guidance to junior engineers. Experience/interest in managing projects or work-winning activities is considered advantageous but not essential.

Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of technical function of wetlands, including industry manuals for wetland design.
  • Demonstrated experience within the field of wetland rehabilitation and design.
  • Understanding of civil design requirements for wetland projects, inputs and outputs.
  • Essential experience with software MUSIC, or any other stormwater quality modeling tools.
  • Solid experience with GIS applications (QGIS, ArcGIS, MapInfo).
  • Preferred experience with Melbourne Water or Victorian CMA projects.
  • Preferred experience or a desire to develop skills in bid preparation and project management.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Beneficial skills include experience with CAD applications and Python coding.

KBR’s Water Resources team has over 30 years demonstrated expertise in flooding and drainage, water supply and management, catchment management, environmental sustainability, and climate change adaptation in Australia and internationally. We have considerable experience in the application of lot to catchment scale hydrology models and one and two dimensional hydraulic models to assist with the planning, design, and management of major infrastructure. Our team works closely with other groups within the company to achieve an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to water resources projects. We have a proven job management system and accountability through robust quality assurance plans.
