About the Role

In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Director, Talent Acquisition who is passionate about attracting and hiring an incredibly talented and diverse team through efficient and equitable processes.

As the leader of the Talent Acquisition team, you will oversee the strategy, policies, processes and people required to recruit and hire 50-80 roles annually. This role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and impact of Braven and continuously improve its talent acquisition function as Braven scales.

This role reports to the Vice President, People and is a member of Braven’s People & Operations team.

What You’ll Do

Talent Acquisition Strategy and Execution (40%)

  • Set vision, define strategy, create policies and design materials for recruitment and hiring through a significant growth phase of an organization (annual hiring estimated at 50-80 staff across teams and levels)
  • Assess every step of the recruitment and hiring process ongoing to mitigate bias and ensure equitable and fair processes
  • Influence, coach, and partner with all hiring managers throughout the hiring process
  • Oversee all stages of candidate experience, ensuring that legal and best hiring practices are followed and determining areas of improvement and potential coaching
  • Collaborate with department heads to forecast hiring needs based on Braven’s strategic plan and anticipated attrition
  • Create engaging job postings and marketing materials to attract candidates
  • Develop, provide input on, and communicate hiring policies 

Full-Cycle Recruitment (30%)

  • Lead full-cycle hiring support for senior leader openings (approximately 3-5 roles at a time), including reviewing resumes, conducting phone screens, and leading all project management and candidate communication
  • Lead additional searches as needed throughout the year 

Talent Team Leadership (15%)

  • Develop, coach and manage the Manager, Talent Acquisition
  • Serve as a thought partner to the VP, People to ensure hiring practices are rooted in Braven’s core values, mitigate bias, and are fair and equitable
  • Work with 5+ hiring support contractors during peak season to ensure optimal team effectiveness
  • Track team data to ensure appropriate use of resources and time

Talent Team Operations (15%)

  • Serve as ATS (Workable) administrator and point-person in order to maximize its functionality, implement any new features, and troubleshoot any issues
  • Manage all recruitment and hiring data and use analytics to track recruitment metrics, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to ensure an equitable hiring process
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least five (5) years of experience in full-cycle recruitment
  • Proven track record of effectively leading and developing others 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience recruiting in a non-profit or mission-driven organization, ideally during a high growth phase
  • Experience designing and managing interview processes across multiple locations and with hybrid teams
  • Experience serving as an ATS administrator and configuring the system to the unique needs of the organization
  • Experience setting team goals and building systems for tracking metrics to ensure equity throughout the hiring process and to inform workforce planning
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to create talent strategy aligned with organization goals
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and ability to build a stellar employer brand
  • Significant experience and success managing across lines of difference and across levels
  • High empathy and strong customer service mindset while ensuring consistent and fair processes
  • Impeccable organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with multiple collaborators at once
  • Ability, comfortability and desire to work through ambiguity and figure out problems through excellent collaboration and communication
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability and desire to work a 50 hour work week, balancing your personal and professional responsibilities with care
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion

Work Demands

  • Ability to work in-person in Chicago (IL) 3 days per week (Tuesday - Thursday)
  • Ability to travel 4-5 times per year

Additional Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Benefits

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position, which depends on prior work experience and our assessment of your demonstrated fit for the role, will likely be between $91,300-$114,100 in Chicago. Braven offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal and external equity seriously. Given our commitment to equity, Braven does not negotiate salary offers; instead each salary offer is determined carefully using external and internal benchmarking. You will have an opportunity to discuss salary in more detail after you begin the application process.

Braven also provides competitive, comprehensive benefits, recognition, and career development. While Braven reserves the right to change benefits at any time, current benefits include:

  • Unlimited vacation time in addition to org-wide holidays and week-long shutdowns in July and the end of the calendar year (this is a minimum of 19 days per year)
  • Match of your 401K contribution up to 5% of your base annual salary, starting your first full month
  • Coverage of 85% of health insurance premium for employee and dependents
  • 12 weeks of paid parental leave
  • A one-month paid sabbatical after 4 years on staff

Location

We gather in the office 3 days per week and work remotely 2 days per week. Therefore, we require teammates to live within commuting distance of Chicago. We believe in the magic, connection, and collaboration that happens when people work together face-to-face and we believe in giving people flexibility to focus, balance personal priorities, and save themselves two commutes per week.
