DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is looking to grow and enhance our practice and we are adding a CADD Designer to be a part of our Transportation Practice in Chicago, Illinois. The ideal candidate is an experienced CADD technical professional providing design, implementation, testing, and operations and maintenance related to on-premises and cloud-hosted CAD cloud computing environments with limited supervision. Works directly with other IT system administrators and business stakeholders to strategize systems integrations to develop and maintain workflow automation. Manage the development and maintenance of custom CAD configuration management applications. Provides direction and technical support for all aspects of design and plan preparation for a variety of engineering projects, including local municipalities, state agencies, private development, and many others requesting assistance in solving their infrastructure design challenges. The candidate will also support our Structural, Hydraulics, and Environmental Practices in Illinois and adjacent states. This position is based in Chicago, IL and we offer flexible hybrid work, depending on client requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Prioritizes, tracks, handles, and maintains records of the elements, costs, and time schedules of multiple projects.
  • Efficient with design software and applies engineering fundamentals to prepare designs meeting requirements of internal and external clients.
  • Ability to coordinate with design teams, agency contacts and Project Managers to ensure coordinated design, develop processes to improve efficiency, and deliver design packages.
  • Coordinates CAD setup and deliverables with subconsultants.
  • Prepares illustrations or rough sketches of material according to instructions of client or supervisor.
  • Studies illustrations and design manuals applicable to plan presentation of material, product, or service. 
  • Determines size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, selects style and size of type, and creates sample layouts.
  • Selects, supervises, and obtains cost estimates from outside vendors.
  • Prepares quantity and cost estimate for project within quality specifications, financial constraints, and time schedule for project.
  • Develops technical specifications for proposed designs.
  • Prepares layout prints for supervisor or client.
  • Presents samples to supervisor or client for selection and approval.
  • Creates finished layout or prepares instructions for workers who assemble and prepare final layouts.
  • Reviews final layout and suggests improvements as needed and presents final layout to supervisor or client for approval.
  • Prepares final layout for printer on paper, film, or disk. Checks proofs.
  • Enforce adherence to company/client CAD standards through the performance of CAD peer reviews. Reviews quality of final product before release to client
  • Structure, organize, and maintain files on the CAD systems, common data environments, document management systems, and e-construction solutions. 
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation on the configuration and architecture of CADD Systems tools and processes. Develop CAD standards for MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • Conduct scoping, planning and scheduling estimates for CAD system administration projects as requested. 
  • Research and propose new CAD system solutions enabling BIM, VDC, Digital Twin, and integrated technology solutions to senior IT leadership.

SUPERVISORTY RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluates the performance of CAD users, provides training/development, guidance, and institutes system/process upgrades.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Two-year degree in computer science, engineering technology or related field, or transportation project experience with increasing responsibilities. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Proficiency with the Bentley software suite of tools specifically Bentley MicroStation Connect Edition, Open Roads Designer, Open Bridge Modeler, and ProjectWise required. 
  • Bentley ProjectWise and MicroStation Accreditations preferred.
  • Experience with Bluebeam and Adobe Acrobat preferred.
  • Project Experience with CDOT, IDOT, Illinois Tollway and local transportation agencies preferred.
  • Experience in prioritizing multiple concurrent projects while still delivering timely and accurate results.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ProjectWise workspace setup and management.
  • Must have strong written/verbal communication skills and ability to interact cooperatively and collaboratively with others as a team, including those holding divergent and/or opposing views and goals.
  • Proactively resolves issues with the CAD environment. 
  • Proficiency in project organization and presentation of documentation

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $90,558- $130,743 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
