As a Service Line Quality senior manager, you will join a team who actively enables a positive Quality culture and be a key point of contact for Quality and Risk Management guidance and support to the Strategy & Transactions (SaT) division within EY.

The opportunity

We are looking for an experienced individual who has a broad understanding of internal risk and governance processes and can actively support a growing business to consistently deliver exceptional client service to our clients across Africa. You will be motivated to keep up with the fast pace of the professional services industry, and as such, be able to assist staff and senior management to deliver solutions that align with business objectives whilst ensuring quality is always maintained.

Your role will focus on further strengthening and innovating our existing processes, whilst enabling sustainable growth and consistent high-quality service delivery to our clients.

You will be required to:

  • Engage with leaders across our Africa business.
  • Provide consultation support for pursuit governance and engagement quality controls.
  • Support quality, independence and risk management programmes and processes.
  • Innovate existing processes, in response to our rapidly changing environment.
  • Team with a wide stakeholder group across service lines, competencies, functions, and geographies.
  • Guide teams on best practice service delivery methods, tools, and practices.
  • Interpret and apply EY Service Quality policies.

Your key responsibilities

The responsibilities listed in this document are not exhaustive and are flexible to accommodate the needs of the business, Africa Quality Projects, and overall Firm requirements.

Amongst other things your role will include:

  • Acting as the SaT Service Line Quality Leader’s second in charge
  • Supporting Service Line leadership to manage business risk in the SaT business, through driving adherence to firm risk management policies and procedures, whilst achieving an appropriate balance between risk and control.
  • Monitoring governance and engagement quality controls and the implementation of EY Local & Global policies
  • Advising engagement teams on SaT quality-related issues
  • Consulting with firm leadership in Africa & Collaborating with diverse stakeholders across service lines, competencies, functions, and locations.
  • Spearheading key quality and risk management programmes and procedures.
  • Improving existing procedures considering the continually changing environment.
  • Preparing periodic SaT Service Line Quality alerts and similar newsletters.
  • Supporting the maintenance of SaT Quality databases.
  • Supporting strategic projects aimed at simplification the firm’s policies such as the client and engagement acceptance to ensure adherence with local and international regulations,
  • Supports the SaT Service Line Leader and SaT Quality Leader performing continuous tasks related to compliance with the International System of Quality Management (ISQM).

Skills and attributes for success 

  • Knowledgeable on how professional services firms operate, and ability to remain objective and independent in all risk related matters.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and skilled at handling multiple projects concurrently and prioritizing appropriately, with the ability to perform under pressure.
  • Competent at interpreting, comprehending, and applying Ernst & Young policies, giving accurate and consistent guidance to others.
  • Confident in identifying and raising concerns to the Regional SaT Quality Leader, regarding risks and exceptions.
  • Use business knowledge to make recommendations that facilitate embedding processes and programs.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills & ability to execute to plan.
  • Comfortable with change and being a strong change agent and ability to coach others.
  • Ability to work in a team to achieve a common goal in the interest of the EY Global organisation.
  • Comfortable working with individuals at all levels and creating a network of relationships built on trust.

To qualify for the role, you must have.

  • Minimum 8 years’ work experience in a large professional services firm environment.
  • Should be a confident and dynamic individual with excellent written and verbal business communication skills.
  • Be able to learn, innovate and take initiative to better enable the business.
  • Initiative-taking, high-energy levels, enthusiastic
  • Strong managerial and organisational skills
  • High levels of integrity and confidentiality.
  • High levels of assertiveness and resilience.
  • Diligence and commitment to following a process with care.
  • Analytical thinker
  • Be proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

Ideally, you will also have

  • Experience in working in a Big 4 Quality and Risk Management environment.
  • Have a suitable degree/certification aligned to risk management, project management or business management.
