Your Opportunity

As a Planning and Economic Analyst, you would be the next member of Stantec’s national Development Economics team. We provide research and analysis to illuminate the context for development and revitalization in local communities, and we provide clear strategies and implementation steps to surmount challenges and advance the development outcomes that address local needs.

We are active in developing industry leading methodologies for understanding the economic geography of housing and economic development in local communities and putting that research to work in support of urban planning, housing and economic development projects.

As we’ve been sharpening our methodologies, the demand for our services has been growing and we need another reliable and capable colleague. We are seeking someone with a background in a combination of urban planning, community development, economics, and/or real estate—with an analytical orientation and data analysis skillset.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize an analytical toolkit encompassing coding and spreadsheet methodologies to conduct market, economic, demographic and map-based analyses, in order to create exhibits and communicate findings.
  • Utilize strong writing and clear and comfortable verbal communication to convey information and build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Utilize and build your knowledge of local planning practices, policies and regulations, as well as community engagement processes.
  • Work with clients and members of the community/public in a variety of settings from formal public hearings to listening sessions.
  • Drafting and supporting development market research for plans of all scales and site-based development studies
  • Drafting presentation and narrative content for housing studies, economic development strategies, and development aspects of planning projects
  • Conducting interviews of developers and real estate professionals to deepen insights relative to geographic areas of focus
  • Conduct data analysis utilizing coding and spreadsheet methodologies.
  • Preparing map exhibits, that illustrate patterns of land use and development, and features that illuminate their market context and potential opportunities.
  • Preparing maps that illuminate demographic and economic conditions
  • Conduct strategy and best practices research on housing, retail and financial strategies in support of housing and development studies.
  • Coordinate with multiple parties including internal teams and external consultants, and occasionally with the client.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Be interested in learning all facets of planning and development, and in bringing projects from concept to deliverable.
  • Data analysis skills utilizing coding and spreadsheet methodologies
  • Understanding of urban economics and development economics
  • Collaborative and team building orientation
  • Strong writing, verbal communication and organizational skills.Proficiency in utilizing data analytics coding languages (Python, sql, pandas), and Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.Ability to work independently and apply strong critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge and experience with market and development research platforms
  • Knowledge of urban planning principles is preferred

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Urban Planning, Geography, Economics, Real Estate or related field is required. Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Economics or Real Estate Development is preferred.

0.5-1 year of related professional experience. 2 to 5 years of related professional experience is preferred.

Experience with GIS and particularly ArcGIS Pro is preferred.
