We are looking for a new team member to join us! You will be responsible for assisting & supporting the Compliance team with day-to-day activities, providing guidance and advice in sanctions & export controls related inquiries, working with internal and external stakeholders and driving the sanctions compliance programme at Maersk.

Key responsibilities

As our Compliance Specialist, you will assist and support the organisation with compliance advice with a dedicated focus on sanctions and export controls as well as responsible business practices. You will also be accountable for identifying areas of high risk and work jointly with the Compliance regional teams, and regional/local management to mitigate the identified risks for all Maersk-integrated entities.

Other key responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage with and assist the Compliance team with their day-to-day activities and the implementation of Maersk’s sanctions compliance programme.
  • Assist in drafting relevant training materials and provide support in onsite and online training as needed.
  • Support the team with the preparation and submission of export license applications.
  • Assist in performing sanctions compliance & export controls risk assessments, performance monitoring, audits and reporting.
  • Support internal control implementation and effectiveness matters regarding the sanctions compliance programme.
  • Stay actively informed about changes in sanctions & export control regulations, technology, industry best practices, and emerging trends.
  • Support transaction testing and spot-check implementation in the region.
  • Monitor international regulatory changes and communicate relevant updates with regional teams and stakeholders.
  • Assist the team with any other ad-hoc tasks/projects.

Who are we looking for

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Business Management, Foreign Policy and Law or an equivalent legal qualification-related discipline.

You are a trusted advisor, and have very good interpersonal skills to connect within the team, internal and external stakeholders (including with senior management) and with third parties. You have good knowledge of sanctions & export controls (e.g. OFAC, OFSI, EU, UN) with some experience on any of the following: EU common military list, EU Dual-Use regulation, US export controls (EAR or ITAR), Custom regulations will be an advantage.

Furthermore you:

  • Have at least 3 years of experience in a compliance role, and strong experience in conducting due diligence and training.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in English and Danish. 
  • Excellent intercultural, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly motivated and detail-oriented with great organizational skills.
  • Have professional report writing and presentation skills.
  • Are flexible and adaptable to fast-changing environments.
  • Can work well under pressure and work with sharp deadlines.
  • Have the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Unwavering ethics & integrity in a competitive and demanding work environment.
  • Have ability to work across cultures.
