Summary

The Planner's primary responsibilities include daily reviews of the production schedule to meet customer demand and ensuring timely communication with the customer care team. This role reports directly to the Manager of Production Planning but will have a dotted line to the Plant Manager.

The Planner will be tasked with creating and maintaining an efficient weekly production schedule that enhances production efficiency, maximizes asset utilization, minimizes waste, and aligns with customer-requested delivery dates. Collaboration with customer care, supply chain planning, operations, and the manufacturing plant is essential to maintain the desired production schedule. This includes identifying potential schedule changes that could impact customer orders, addressing potential issues with raw material receiving, and ensuring sufficient product inventory levels are maintained. The Planner is actively engaged in a collaborative team, with daily communication among planners, as they collectively participate in cross-training between business units to support the needs of all plants.

The Planner will bring expertise in material requirements planning (MRP) to the table, working closely with raw material receivers and production teams to ensure the timely receipt of raw materials necessary for finished goods production. The Planner will also be responsible for determining raw material needs and ensuring they are readily available to support production requirements.

Essential Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

50% Create and maintain finite finished goods production schedules on a daily basis, enables efficient production schedules that optimize product change-overs and drives higher asset utilization. Coordinates production scheduling with customer care to satisfy customer request dates and identifies potential issues that impact customer orders. Actively supports other production planners and consistently seeks opportunities to enhance process efficiency.

30% Maintain a high-level of communication across functions, including; production, shipping and receiving, procurement, supply chain planning and operations, and customer service to provide and share information about production schedules so that any necessary changes can be made smoothly with minimal impact to the customer. Maintain ongoing communications and alignment with raw material receiving, production managers, and buyers regarding potential schedule changes.

20% Coordinate inbound raw materials through MRP planning to ensure plant operations are not impacted by delays in raw material supply. Monitor and coordinate shipments in such a way that railroad demurrage and additional delivery costs are kept to a minimum. Maintain regular communication with corporate procurement and raw material suppliers on the forecasted raw material needs to ensure adequate manufacturing lead times for suppliers. Audit and maintain production reports, perform other production planning duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • Must continuously be able to accommodate (change focal length), use peripheral vision, maintain accurate near vision (correctable to 20/20), and maintain accurate depth perception.
  • Must be able to sit frequently and maintain finely developed balance and coordination.
  • Must be able to move throughout the office area and handle small bundles of materials, up to ten pounds in weight.
  • Must continuously maintain comprehensible speech and be able to perceive the spoken voice clearly.
  • Must continuously have the ability to differentiate colors precisely.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5 years related experience in any of the following fields is required:
  • Production Planning
  • Material Requirements Planning (MRP)
  • Supply Chain Planning

Under This Roof, We Also Value

  • College degree preferred
  • Additional experience in any of the following fields is a plus:
  • Customer Service
  • Manufacturing Accounting
  • Logistics
  • Shipping
  • Familiar with standard Manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Intermediate data entry skills; must maintain speed, consistency and accuracy
  • Intermediate proficiency with PC applications including Google Suite tools
  • Intermediate to advanced communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Intermediate to advanced organizational skills, attention to detail
  • Must have sustained concentration and prolonged commitment to job tasks
  • Good judgment with emphasis on safety
  • Strong team player
