Short Overall Summary of Position: The Field Procurement Manager develops and implements procurement strategies for the project business in the areas of building automation, fire, security, and specialty scopes of work. Responsible to establish, guide, and control the proper sourcing processes of procurement resources and activities for optimum cost-cutting potential and to meet deadlines and quality standards. Oversees the introduction of universal procurement strategies into the project process and works closely with cross functional partners to continually monitor the implantation of new procurement processes. Proactively engages the local teams, and able to understand customer contract agreements and project risks, and able to develop strategic negotiation recommendations. Guide the procurement analysis of new projects and works directly with sales and operations to control material and subcontractor costs. Leads all contract and price negotiations.

As a Field Procurement Manager you will make an impact with these qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the construction project life cycle from conceptual design to project close out. Understanding of project documents including plans, specifications, addenda, diagrams, etc. and knowledge of how these fit into the procurement process.
  • Proactively interface with electrical and mechanical subcontractors regarding project scopes. Comfortable analyzing bids and recognizing potential installation efficiencies or methodologies that can result in reduced project costs.
  • Strategically approach and engage negotiations with subcontractors and suppliers to achieve target pricing on a diverse range of projects. Identify, pursue and capitalize on cost savings opportunities to boost profit margins and maximize customer value. 
  • Comfortable working with digital construction documents, and experience with soliciting competitive bids by using an electronic platform. 
  • Maintain the appropriate level of bid solicitation rates that comply with internal procurement policies and ensure that single source purchasing activities are strategic and justifiable. 
  • Identify opportunities to maximize corporate buying power, utilize existing purchasing agreements with manufacturers and suppliers, and work with commodity managers to create a competitive platform to increase favorable pricing.
  • Effectively communicate procurement policies and procedures with internal Management, Operations and Sales. Offer internal presentations and training to explain processes and work flow standards, and act as the first line of support for any internal questions or issues.
  • Examine all quotes and proposals for thoroughness and accuracy. Verify critical information such as cost breakdowns, scope descriptions, required delivery dates, terms and conditions, and exclusions. Oversee the entire procurement life cycle, and support coordination with vendors, design team, field staff, and end users as needed.
  • Supplier management: the role has responsibility for managing relationships with major suppliers including soliciting feedback from internal customers and sharing that with suppliers. Reviewing financial documents to determine financial health of subcontractors. Internal Customer Satisfaction – key managers are surveyed to determine the service level provided.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background or knowledge of construction, construction management, or project management
  • BS/BA in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain Management
  • 5+ years in commercial construction and experience with bid solicitations and negotiating pricing and contract terms
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

  • The pay range for this position is <$94,500 – $127,600>. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
