Job Description

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. From the seabed to outer space, you can contribute to work that matters with a company where diversity, equity and inclusion are shared values. We’re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.

Boeing Space, Intelligence & Weapons Systems is currently hiring multiple Experienced, Lead, and Senior Special Test Equipment (STE) Test Systems Design and Analysis Engineers to join us as part of our Special Test Equipment for Space Electronics team located in El Segundo, CA.

Our team is a critical part of Boeing's mission, ensuring the reliability and performance of advanced space electronics through the design, development, and validation of state-of-the-art testing equipment. Our engineers work on a variety of space-grade electronics, from power and digital subsystems to RF/mixed signal systems.

In the ever-evolving arena of space technology, the STE team will also participate in research and development initiatives focusing on futuristic technologies such as advanced propulsion systems, spaceborne telescopes, and spacecraft for asteroid mining and space-based solar power systems.

Here at Boeing, you're not just starting a job; you're advancing your career in ways that will align with your aspirations and passions. It's more than a place to work; it's a place to fulfil your potential and passion for space technology.

Position Responsibilities

(All engineers will participate and work within the below scope of work appropriate to their technical capabilities)

  • Design and develop state-of-the-art Special Test Equipment (STE) for power/digital and RF/mixed signal systems used in space-based applications. This includes defining the STE architecture and performing hands-on development.
  • Conduct detailed circuit design for both power/digital and RF/mixed signal subsystems, involving components like power supply circuits, microcontrollers, FPGAs, logic circuits, memory circuits, filters, amplifiers, and mixers.
  • Perform detailed modeling and analysis of the designed circuits and overall test system to predict their behavior and performance. Utilize simulation tools like SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, and Advanced Design System (ADS).
  • Design and conduct various testing methodologies to support designs and to gather data for technical performance measures. This could involve testing power supplies under different load conditions, testing digital circuit logic under different input conditions, and testing RF circuit performance at different frequencies. Use tools like Python, LabVIEW, TestStand, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and vector signal analyzers for testing and data collection.
  • Document designs, test procedures, and analysis results meticulously. Manage these using version control systems like SVN.
  • Provide technical support during the production and testing of space-qualified electronics. Troubleshoot any anomalies occurring during the integration and test of a test system or flight unit, as well as during subsequent delivery and system usage.
  • Make recommendations for the procurement of test equipment, ensuring the testing setup has the right tools for the job.
  • Use project management tools like Microsoft Project to track project costs and schedules, ensuring that projects stay on track.
  • Use Python, LabView, C#, Agilent VEE, to design automated tests for spacecraft modules, slices, and units
  • Lead STE design reviews to ensure adherence to development processes. Support the preparation of proposals and bids for new test system projects.
  • Mentor and guide team members, fostering an environment of learning and growth.
