The Project Manager is a seasoned professional responsible for managing projects of medium complexity, including day-to-day project management of the scope, schedule, cost, quality of projects, analysis, data collection and summarization of findings. The role applies strategic leadership skills and technical expertise to manage client relationships and provide highly specialized support to the organization, primarily related to the project management process that supports business strategy and objectives. The Project Manager exercises a high degree of independent judgement to develop project plans for projects, including identifying tasks to complete, assigning staff resources, and coordinating the delivery of outputs. The role provides leadership to a team, supporting the development of business cases, outlining project goals, and providing terms of reference, resource requirements, and a detailed cost-benefit analysis. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Drive successful project execution, ensuring adherence to established processes and deliverables, timely delivery, and stakeholder satisfaction. 
  • Develop detailed project plans, define scope, objectives, tasks, and deliverables for each phase of the project. 
  • Identify, allocate and manage project resources, including personnel and budget, to ensure efficient project execution. 
  • Create and manage project schedules, setting realistic timelines and milestones. Monitor progress, identify potential delays, and take proactive measures to keep projects on track. 
  • Identify project risks and develop risk mitigation strategies. Implement effective risk management practices to minimize potential issues and ensure project success. Facilitate the escalation and resolution of issues. 
  • Facilitate effective communication among project team members, stakeholders, and senior management. Provide regular updates on project status, milestones, and risks, including periodic Steering Committee meetings, where required. 
  • Manage project changes and assess their impact on timeline, resources, and budget. Follow change control methodology to minimize disruptions and maintain project schedule. 
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, status reports, meeting minutes, change requests and all other project artifacts. Generate regular reports to update management on project progress and key performance indicators, where applicable. 
  • Participate in the development of programs, tools or services by assessing the impact, effectiveness and feasibility of proposed changes. 
  • Work with business partners to identify success measures and develop potential solutions to address emerging needs. 
  • Provide a focused effort on ensuring delivery of solutions managed in a client-centric environment. 
  • Work with stakeholders to schedule and facilitate meetings. 
  • Create status reports, meeting minutes, and presentations. 
  • Maintain up-to-date risks, actions, issues, and decisions logs. 
  • Conduct periodic project evaluations to identify Lessons Learned and areas for improvement. Implement corrective actions and incorporate feedback into future project planning. 
  • This position may have responsibility for supporting the operations of various program initiatives. 

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: 

  • Be the liaison between business units, technology teams, and support teams.

  • Speaking up if witnessing behaviors that drive poor or unfair outcomes for clients, team members or other stakeholders 
  • Escalating matters that can result in adverse market practices and outcomes, thereby negatively impacting CIBC’s reputation as a leading financial institution 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum of 3 years of project management experience. 
  • Proven experience as a Project Manager, preferably in a banking or financial institution, successfully delivering projects using the waterfall methodology. Agile experience is a plus. 
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of project management principles, methodologies, and best practices. 
  • Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is preferred 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Ability to influence key stakeholders through well-articulated strategies and benefit driven value statements. 
  • Curious, creative thinker with a collaborative approach to problem solving. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills - both written and oral. Ability to communicate complicated matters in a simple, structured way to senior management. 
  • Be highly detail oriented and have strong organizational and communication skills. 
  • Adapts well to fast-paced and changing environment. 
  • Curious about the bank, its strategies, its businesses and its people. 
  • Ability to build rapport with a variety of stakeholders and team members. 
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to apply logical solutions to business problems 
  • Ability to positively influence others to achieve the results that are in the best interest of the organization. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint. 
  • Microsoft Project, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint experience preferred. 
  • College degree required.

  • Project management certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or Agile certifications is a plus.
