Director Sustainability NAM

Location:

Charlotte Office

This role is hybrid; therefore, you can expect to be in the office three days week as needed and should live within a commutable distance to the office.

Position Summary

The Director Sustainability will manage the sustainability activities of the sub-region North America (US, Canada, Mexico) to ensure legal and social licenses to operate and to ensure objective reporting of environmental and sustainability programs, risks, compliance, and other sustainability impacts. This role will also be part of the Global Sustainability Centre of Excellence and contribute in the area of expertise to develop and implement global programs, set global standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage sustainability activities in sub-region in scope to ensure activities are performed according Sibelco’s standards (e.g. activities related to environmental and mining permits, land management, environmental studies, community engagement, budget, etc.).
  • Be the direct manager of the Sustainability Specialists in the sub-region and partner closely with the sub-regional management (VP Operations and VP Commercial).
  • Identify, manage and monitor risks and opportunities in the sub-region in scope.
  • Ensure effective reporting on global KPI’s, projects and programs.
  • Center of Excellence:
  • As member of the global centre of excellence, contribute to develop and implement global environmental or social programs for the Group and improve sustainability performance in area of expertise.
  • Act as a business partner to other functions for their area of expertise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent through experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in sustainability/environmental management or a similar field.
  • Experience working with governments, authorities, communities.
  • Experience with ESG strategy, ESG/Sustainability reporting (e.g. GRI, SASBI, etc.), environmental management (air, water, waste, etc.), community engagement.
  • Preferably a background in environmental law.
  • Proficient in English. Other languages are an asset.
