Join us! We are a team of internal consultants and project managers solving cross-functional problems and impacting the strategy realization of an innovative leading healthcare institution. This role will support one or two areas that may include the Emergency Department, Continuity of Care Management, Patient Access Services, Nursing or Inpatient Operations.

You Will:

  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of a broad range of strategic and operational initiatives at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital
  • Work directly with the hospital executive leadership to support their prioritized initiatives
  • Deliver project management support including project scoping, development and documentation of plans and timelines, and communication of progress towards goals to various audiences
  • Work with workgroups, steering committees, and clinical and administrative leaders to develop solutions and move initiatives forward
  • Report to the Director of Strategy Implementation within the Department of Analytics, Planning, Strategy, and Improvement (APSI)
  • Work in a hybrid model (from home and on hospital campus as needed)

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management

  • Creatively and accurately scope and plan projects in consultation with project owners and sponsors: define goals and deliverables, identify and engage project team members and collaborators, research issues, collect and synthesize relevant information and data, develop work and communication timelines, facilitate team meetings and work groups, track project status and measures of success
  • Use standardized approaches, tools, and technologies for internal consultancy
  • Proactively consider and evaluate complexities of projects and propose potential solutions when applicable
  • Approach the work with curiosity and purpose of adopting adequate skill and content to advance projects and remove barriers
  • Lead projects forward with a spirit of progress and by example, establishing self as a critical role in project outcome 

Operational Change and Strategy Implementation

  • Evaluate how changes may impact the organization’s operations across a variety of teams
  • Display strong coping and perceptivity skills in identifying the appropriate pace of change
  • Support operational improvement initiatives by developing comprehensive implementation plans in partnership with leadership
  • Analyze operational data to evaluate performance and find opportunities
  • Regularly distribute and present key data and strategies highlighting the progress of a project
  • Goals for this work will often relate to improvement in operational efficiency, asset utilization, capacity management, quality, and safety

Communication

  • Develop concise and professional summaries of results, barriers, and next steps
  • Creatively and concisely present information, targeting the presentation towards the knowledge level and needs of the audience, including executive and senior management, clinicians, and front-line staff
  • Work to ensure seamless information flow between involved parties
  • Encourage and engage others in discussion to establish relationships and trust among team members by communicating ‘early and often’

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, MHA or MPH preferred
  • Experience as a consultant or project manager, ideally in healthcare but other industries considered:
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience for a Consultant role
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience for a Senior Consultant role
  • Experience working in a hospital or medical center environment preferred
  • Outstanding judgment and discretion in interacting with operational and clinical leaders on political and confidential issues

Skills / Abilities / Competencies:

  • Skilled at project management; project scoping, action planning, execution, and development of monitoring tools
  • Superior organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to independently research complex issues and to succinctly synthesize and articulate findings for various audiences
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with experience working with senior management
  • Individual must be assertive, and results oriented with experience facilitating and staffing projects that involve multidisciplinary team members
  • Handles issues that are significant, multidisciplinary, political, and confidential.
