Job Description:

The Principal Hardware Design Engineer will report to the Co-Founder/VP Hardware & Software to develop and design ultra-high data rates electro-optical modules and sub-systems for the company. This role will collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, software, optics, and DSP engineering teams to lead and drive the development of mission-critical projects.

Essential Responsibilities:
Lead responsibility from concept to production-release of high speed electro-optical transmission products and test vehicles for such products
Design high-speed mixed signal design including overseeing PCB layout for 20G+ signals
Design of low noise high efficiency DC-DC power supplies
Test and validate new electro-optical transmission products
Lead board level signal integrity analysis and implementation for 20G+ signals
Lead product documentation –Design, DVT, and Test specifications
Design microprocessor and FGPA control and sub-systems

Minimum Qualifications, Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications:
B.S. in relevant field (M.S. preferred) with a minimum 10+ years of relevant industry experience
High-energy, team player, startup mentality
Ability to flourish with minimal guidance + handle uncertainty and ambiguity
Good understanding of high-efficiency ultra-low noise DC-DC power converters
Solid understanding of analog design circuits (ADC, DACs, Op Amps, TIAs, etc.)
Good understanding of transmission line theory and effects (micro strip, strip line, CPW, etc.)
Strong preference for working knowledge of analog/RF simulation tools (e.g. LTSpice®, ADS®)
Demonstrated experience with PCB material and layout techniques for high speed signaling (20+ GHz)
Design of low noise analog circuitry, PLLs, and analog and digital feedback controls systems

Excellent debugging and lab skills including working with test equipment
Knowledge of optical components (lasers, modulators, detectors, DWDM technologies, etc.)

Understanding and implementing of digital control loops and DSP functions

Working knowledge of FPGAs and RTL coding (Plus)

Experience with DxDesigner® & working knowledge of Allegro® PCB Layout tools
Experience with designs for EMI/EMC compliance
A love for challenging the status quo with innovation and creativity

Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
Ability to lift 20 pounds
