Overview:

The Co-Chief Investment Officer will partner with the existing CIO and co-lead the management, oversight and execution of the investment processes within Active Index Advisors (“AIA”). This includes a variety of direct indexing strategies that are focused primarily on maximizing after-tax returns while tracking a benchmark. This is a hybrid position based in San Francisco, CA. 

What you will do:

  • Develop, review, enhance and lead all aspects of the implementation of systematic and quantitative investment processes, including algorithmic design, workflows, scaling, risk control, resolving client issues, and bottleneck mitigation.
  • Will frequently require hands-on portfolio management, troubleshooting, problem and error resolution.
  • Develop, mentor and manage junior portfolio management staff.
  • Collaborate with IT to configure custom software solutions to support portfolio management technology needs and to implement enhancements to systems and processes.
  • Support business development efforts by meeting with research analysts, consultants and other gatekeepers to communicate AIA’s process and capabilities.
  • Serve as co-chair of the AIA investment review team.
  • Provide education to internal and external parties on AIA’s philosophy, investment process, and capabilities.
  • Coordinate and communicate frequently with operations, trading, client relations, client service, sales, marketing, performance, and other internal teams to manage overall risk, deliver on client expectations, and achieve performance objectives.
  • Produce and write thought leadership and white papers on relevant topics. 

What you will bring:

  • Undergraduate degree required, preferably in a quantitative field such as math, statistics, econometrics, operations research, physics, financial engineering, etc. Graduate degree in a related quantitative area such as applied math, statistics, operations research, econometrics, finance or related field, preferred.
  • Professional designation such as CFA, FRM, progress towards those or a willingness to pursue strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience applying quantitative skills in financial services applications and prior investment experience with tax efficient/direct indexing strategies required. 
  • Experience working with multi-factor risk models and optimization programs (e.g. Axioma, BARRA, Northfield).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong technology skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation abilities.
