Job Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Media Team within the Disney Branded Television (DBT) and National Geographic content marketing team of Disney Entertainment Television (DET). Our marketing team is responsible for Disney Channel, Disney Junior, DisneyXD, Disney Original Documentaries, National Geographic, National Geographic Wild and National Geographic Documentary Films. Our content spans many genres reaching many audience segments from kids and family, animation, or scripted content to inspiring documentaries, natural history, and premium non-fiction.

The Campaign and Media Planning Director is responsible for developing on-air and synergy media strategies and overseeing the execution of campaigns that drive awareness, viewership, and engagement for our linear networks. This position is a key touchpoint and the baseline of support for our marketing campaigns and requires a strong understanding the television media landscape. This leadership position will be the day-to-day contact for on-air media from strategic development to flawless execution and post-campaign analysis. The Director is also responsible for non-title, department workload to support broader corporate KPIs.

Strong management and training skills are required to oversee a team of media planning experts. The role will support the VP, Media and manage a team of Sr. Manager(s), Manager(s), Media Planner(s) and Coordinator(s), with senior level executive visibility, as well as cross-functional collaboration and external partner management. This is a fast-paced, multi-faceted position that requires strategic thinking, attention to detail, organization, and excellent communication skills, while being able to manage several projects concurrently and be self-motivated to keep projects moving against aggressive timelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership position that requires strategic thinking, TV industry and media planning proficiency, executive presence to lead the on-air department in the evolving linear landscape, management skillset to oversee bi-coastal team, strong attention to detail to ensure flawless execution of our network air time, and thought leader guidance to achieve network goals across the Disney Entertainment Television organization.
  • Subject matter expertise to develop and/or oversee strategic media plans for all on-air campaigns to increase viewer engagement and convert audiences further from program to program across our schedules. Requires strong understanding of linear TV, non-linear (TVE/VOD) media and experience with marketing levers & tools. Understanding of the entertainment industry and the evolving linear television business is a must.
  • Lead Nat Geo and Disney Branded Television Cross Channel media strategy and planning for incoming and outgoing priorities across DET networks and representing these brands in the “Center of Excellence”. Partner brands: ABC Entertainment, ABC News, OTV Nets, FX Nets, FreeForm, ESPN, DBT Nets & NG Nets.
  • Interface with Marketing, Programming, Franchise, and Ad Sales aligning promotional plans with programming schedule, available promo inventory and creative assets available to support on-air priorities and maximize the company's potential. Works closely with internal research and marketing strategy partners to identify key audience segments, understand evolving viewership patterns, and evolve media strategy to maximize on-air audience. Requires significant interaction with S&P and legal to comply with regulatory and corporate guidelines.
  • Strong leadership and management skills to manage a bi-coastal team in the fast-paced entertainment industry. Training of Media Planners and Campaign Planners on media 101 and advanced strategies across linear TV media and non-linear platforms (TVE/VOD). Determine and manage day-to-day workload and expectations for direct reports and team leadership overall. Must provide constructive feedback throughout the year to direct report and indirect reports, as well as manage annual review process and ongoing career support.
  • Supervise flawless execution of the on-air deliverables process, managing business partners to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials. Oversee team that requests all promo and graphic deliverables for on-air campaigns in collaboration with marketing organization, aligning with marketing needs and company resources available to support linear and marketing-wide campaigns. Spearhead department process development and continue refining improvement opportunities to find efficient and effective workflows with creative and production management while minimizing the impact on marketing resources and improving deliverable timelines.
  • Must have a strong culture of reporting to distribute accurate, necessary information to key stakeholders regularly and demonstrate on-air strategies to leadership, as needed. Maintain weekly/monthly project-related or annual reports to inform executive leadership of ongoing media updates and performance. Analyze post-launch data for effective reach and frequency metrics.
  • Develop and effectively communicate media strategies to cross-functional teams on a quarterly and monthly basis. Must be comfortable presenting in large rooms with executive leaders (in person and over Zoom).

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8 years of media planning experience
  • On-air media planning
  • Minimum of 4 years TV industry experience
  • In-house media experience
  • Direct people management required, managing multiple teams
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in a leadership position on high level priority with communication to senior level stakeholders
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Sense of urgency for fast-paced entertainment industry
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and a Media Optimizer tool
  • Must be able to work in Burbank or Washington, DC office 4x/week

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year experience with kids marketing
  • Grip It experience
  • Bi-coastal working experience

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree; B.A. in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications preferred OR Equivalent Work Experience

The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA and Washington, DC is $135,000 to $181,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
