COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGIST

Occupational Summary

The Communications Strategist position is on a five-year grant that is expected to continue to September 2026. Per grant protocol, this position will complete grant-related communication initiatives such as creating, developing, and implementing cohesive communication strategies across the institution and with our partner organizations and federal partners. The Communications Strategist will effectively and professionally communicate at all levels working closely with the Pediatrics Emergency Medicine Division Chief.

Work Performed

  • Establish standards and provides oversight of editorial content for websites, publications and other internal and external communication channels. Ensures that all materials present a clear, unified and positive image for the institution, partner organizations and federal partners; drafts, reviews and edits messages.
  • Prepare and analyze web-related metrics that correspond with key deliverables and analyze project impacts and dependencies across end-user personas and domains.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with leaders and key communication offices and staff across the institution, partner organizations and federal partners.
  • Manage freelancers and interns to produce content to support communication plans and goals for the department. Delegate tasks and review work for accuracy.
  • Provide reports to leadership as needed.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training: Work requires communications, marketing, strategic planning, analytical and organizational skills generally required through completion of Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, English or a related field.


Experience: Requires four years of experience in journalism, public relations, marketing or related field with experience posting and publishing through print and electronic mediums, including content management systems. Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills necessary to manage and coordinate a variety of tasks. Experience working in an academic environment is preferred.


Preferred Skills:

  • Strong web design and content development skills with a deep understanding of how to maximize user experience and how to best synthesize, design, and present educational content in online formats.
  • Significant website management experience and social media expertise.
  • Ability to manage non-routine daily challenges and display critical-thinking and analytical skills to understand and create a solution.
  • Advanced knowledge of operational, functional, and/or business systems and practices.
