Job Description Summary

Working independently, the Senior Accountant, Fixed Assets performs various accounting duties including accounting and analyzing for freight and supply invoices and distributions, analyzing store and field expenses, the preparation of various monthly reports, month-end close responsibilities analyzing the monthly Profit and Loss Statements and Balance Sheet, and managing additional projects as needed. An associate in this position will interact with his or her supervisor as needed by either. Most activities can be completed without a supervisor’s advance approval.

SUMMARY

Working independently, the Senior Accountant, Fixed Assets will be responsible for fixed asset accounting and other areas of general accounting. Fixed asset accounting will include recording the cost of newly acquired assets of our stores and digital businesses, tracking existing fixed assets, recording depreciation, and accounting for the disposition of fixed assets. General accounting will include the preparation of month-end journal entries, expense accruals, balance sheet reconciliations and various analyses requested by management. Communicating clearly with various departments of the company and management will be essential to the success of this position.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system (SAP)
  • Track the compilation of project costs into the fixed asset accounts.
  • Reconcile the balance in the fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the summary-level account in the general ledger.
  • Calculate depreciation for all fixed assets as well as asset retirement obligations.
  • Recommend to management when fixed assets should be disposed of if they are no longer in service.
  • Prepare, maintain, and understand balance sheet and income statement reconciliations.
  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Prepare audit schedules and assist the auditors in their inquiries.
  • Identify areas of opportunity to increase automations and efficiencies within the current processes and assist in or initiate process improvements to improve efficiency/productivity and strengthen controls to improve the fixed asset close cycle.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality required of company financial data.

  • Assist and coordinate special projects and reports as needed within the general scope of this role.
  • Review and approve monthly account reconciliations at the direction of the Director – US General Accounting

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

  • Bachelor’s degree with an accredited program in accounting.
  • General or fixed asset accounting experience required.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Retail industry experience is a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Proficient understanding of general accountancy, including generally accepted accounting principles
  • Proficient ability to communicate effectively with others using spoken and written English
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; specifically, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Word
  • Working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA
  • Proficient project planning skills, including the ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities in order to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and potentially conflicting priorities
  • Ability to recognize discrepancies/errors in written/recorded data/information including the ability to initiate and respond to work errors in a professional manner, working collaboratively and cooperatively with others
  • Ability to conduct working relationships in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization
  • Ability to work under demanding time constraints and production goals
