Senior Accountant

Our client, a premier real estate investment firm is looking for a Senior Accountant to join their team to review all aspects of financial reporting for one of their flagship funds. This will involve working closely with their fund administrators and other departments within the company. 

LOCATION:

San Francisco, CA. Hybrid capacity, In the office on Tue-Wed-Thu and they provide catered lunches.

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

This position will review the work of their third party fund administrator; thus, the person needs to be a senior accountant level person who has strong interpersonal skills and the ability to review the work of and communicate with their fund administrator. 

They expect this role to have good work life balance and it will not involve working long hours, while it will also be challenging and rewarding. Although this is primarily a reviewer role, the candidate should be willing to get their hands dirty from time to time and be a team player. 

This position will report to an Assistant Portfolio Controller. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as main point of contact for finance and accounting projects for account/fund that this individual will support. This involves communication across all departments within the Firm and fund administrator.
  • Act as liaison for financial reporting and capital account matters to investors, third-party consultants, and/or trustees.
  • Support accounting and finance for real estate transactions such as acquisitions, dispositions, financings, etc.
  • Responsible for cash projections/planning (requires direct interaction with Portfolio Managers and other departments within the Firm). Includes coordinating and reviewing capital calls, distributions, financing draws/paydowns, and general cash management with fund administrator.
  • Directly supervise the fund administrator team, including reviewing deliverables before external distribution to investors, third-party consultants, lenders, etc. Provide feedback during review, facilitating a collaborative environment while optimizing operational efficiency. 
  • Establish working relationship with third-party property teams and joint venture partners to ensure that the required property-level deliverables are provided in accordance with company policies. Assist third-party managers and joint venture partners with onboarding for newly acquired properties as well as questions that arise throughout reporting periods, with fund administrator team.
  • Partner with Portfolio Management and Client Relations teams to provide necessary financial information for current and prospective investors.
  • Responsible for calculation of performance reporting for investments, investors, and fund/account overall, including review of performance reporting provided by fund administrator. 
  • Research complex accounting issues and assist Portfolio Assistant Controller in formulating appropriate response.
  • Collaborate in the production and review of the fund/account’s quarterly reporting package, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Deliverables include the GAAP fair value financial statements, investor reports/questionnaire, and loan compliance.
  • Coordinate the external audits, including managing the fund administrator to provide support directly. Oversee the fund administrator’s preparation of accurate and complete audit packages and provide timely, complete and accurate responses to external auditor’s questions or requests for information.
  • Provide tax preparers with accounting information requested for income tax return preparation.
  • Partner with Treasury team to support Treasury needs for respective accounts. 
  • Bring any accounting/auditing issues to the Assistant Controller’s attention on a timely basis.
  • Undertake other assigned duties from time-to-time.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience years in of one of the following areas
  • public accounting audit/assurance (with asset management clients)
  • public accounting tax (with asset management clients)
  • fund administration 
  • industry accounting (with real estate)
  • CPA desired
  • Preparation of GAAP financial statements and notes
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • Capable of multi-tasking with ability to prioritize deadlines
  • Should possess a strong team-oriented work ethic and energy
  • Ability to problem solve 
  • Detail-oriented and experience with reviewing deliverables

COMPENSATION:

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $110-125K bonus. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
