Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Database Administrator in our Chandler, AZ or Scottsdale, AZ locations. In this role, you will be responsible for performing and planning management and administration of technology in area of specialty while working with team members to ensure technology is effectively supporting enterprise systems. Shares knowledge and provides mentoring to other associates.

Essential Functions

  • Analyze existing database systems and recommend improvements
  • Configure and administer Microsoft SQL Server database servers and ecosystem
  • Work to establish proper database security posture and compliance
  • Create and maintain database access systems including tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, and triggers
  • Administer database replication between servers, across datacenters
  • Tune and optimize database objects
  • Participate in 24x7 on call support rotation
  • Provide technical input to solution development plans and concept documents
  • Communicate effectively in written and verbal form in a cross-functional setting with business partners
  • Share knowledge and actively mentors less experienced DBAs
  • Exemplify Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and proactively works to improve Garmin’s image & culture
  • Perform and plan version upgrades
  • Design and implement effective monitoring of data systems
  • Foresee risks and communicate and mitigate those before problems arise
  • Document technical designs and procedures
  • Plan and manage technical projects involving other teams
  • Communicate technology effectively to non-technical associates and management
  • Recognize and understand technology impacts within the business
  • Consistently look for opportunities to improve systems under their management
  • Give and receive feedback in a constructive manner
  • Resolve conflicts with little assistance
  • Contribute to technical research on new technologies, processes or procedures

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to implement new technologies effectively 
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Consistently demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work documentation and organization

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with other enterprise-level SQL database solutions such as Oracle DB, Postgres, etc
  • Experience with other non-SQL data solutions such as Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc
  • Superior academics
  • Previous experience working in a team environment
