This position works out of our Johannesburg offices, South Africa in the Established Pharmaceutical Division. As the Head of Logistics and Operations , you will provide leadership and partner with key stake holders within the manufacturing teams to drive process improvement and meet business demands in some or all of the following functions: new product launches, product line transfers, end of life (EOL) product life cycle planning, purchasing, production scheduling, inventory management, customer service, supply chain systems, freight and

logistics and warehouse efficiency.

What You’ll Do

Supply Chain

  • Prepares inventory and cost forecasts and budget recommendations for manager.
  • Creates action plans from new product core team meetings and manages implementation and
  • execution of action plans.
  • Provides leadership to teams through setting goals which align to the teams' annual plans and
  • manages the execution of goals through coaching and mentoring.
  • Develops a culture of continuous improvement, professional growth, cross functional collaboration.
  • and goal planning and execution.
  • Removes obstacles and implement practices which ensures customers receive product in a timely
  • manner using cost efficient processes (workforce planning, inventory management, purchasing,
  • systems utilization).
  • Hires and retains a diverse, highly qualified staff and provides ongoing performance feedback.
  • Maintains a safe and professional work environment.
  • Responsible for the planning and management of activities related to material logistics, aiming at
  • meeting pre-determined quantities, quality and deadlines, and the efficiency of operational flows.
  • Coordinates materials supply, storage, distribution and order delivery, seeking the optimization of
  • available resources to meet the needs of the Production and Sales areas.
  • Facilitates and organizes S&OP process of EAC region, demand and supply reviews, participate in commercial reviews and coordinates actions based on discussion and decisions to implement in ADS, risks and opportunities
  • Active user of PRIME and all reports in it, manages and coordinates appropriate and required changes related to PRIME system
  • Develops studies and determines strategies to enhance the efficiency of the processes.
  • Research, negotiate, maintain, monitor, and regularly evaluate relationships and contracts with
  • external suppliers so the organization has a reliable supply of goods and services that meet its
  • standards of quality, timeliness, and cost

Operations:

  • Serve as primary contact between Abbott and Third-Party Manufacturer for the cluster and maintain “One-Voice” from Abbott and may cover multiple Product Families which may/may not be linked to Product Work Streams.
  • Travel to TPM sites and establish meaningful working relationships and understanding of the TPM’s capabilities and/or Customer’s needs.
  • Primary Abbott interface with Operational management at TPMs (Site Director(s) and his/her management teams).
  • Assure that strategic objectives can be met through TPM capacity analysis taking into account Long Range Plan forecasts. Highlight concerns to local Affiliates, Regional Operations and other organizations proactively.
  • Working with the appropriate Abbott functions negotiate new and extensions to contracts with the Third Parties. Assure performance metrics are clearly established and included in the terms of the contract. Assure that contracts are aligned with strategic business objectives.
  • Identify and recommend potential TPMs for new and existing products. Support local manufacturing transfers and launches
  • Drive the coordination between functional teams and local TPMs
  • Ensure that contract commitments are being fulfilled by both parties and participate (With local Affiliates) to resolve when they are not. Involve the appropriate Abbott resources when issues need to be resolved.
  • Review of the Quality Technical Agreement (QTA) in line with TPM/Supplier Quality Assurance
  • Monitor and control shipment of bulk materials to secure enough material is ready for the manufacturing of the product.
  • Ensure PO’s are opened on time to secure invoices of partners paid on due dates
  • Manage any project regarding the test method and product transfers if requested by Affiliate

Quality Management:

  • Attend Quality Management Review quarterly meetings.
  • Support in audit readiness activities, participate in audits as required.
  • Manage and report distribution complaints.
  • Initiate any change controls relevant to job responsibility, support in change
  • control forum & complete related actions as per timeline.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply-Chain, Operations or Related.

Preferred experience:

  • 10 years' experience within a similar role with at least 5 years’ experience with Line Management
  • Must have experience dealing with multi-nationals and sourcing from other countries.
  • Ideally having experience within the pharmaceutical or Medical devices industry is preferred. However, will consider other industries.
  • Candidate to be analytical and a problem-solver who is process driven.
  • Ideally have experience with SAP , and As400/ Bpex
