This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Application Developer - GIS for our Topeka, KS office location.

In this role you will provide technical assistance and guidance for capturing, modeling, and analyzing geographical and tabular data to illustrate and determine spatial relationships as it pertains to client projects. You will provide support and guidance to technical staff and project managers by assisting with spatial mapping, discovering patterns and trends, and developing mapping applications and tools at the intersection of data analysis, programming, and cartography. You will generate accurate and concise documentation assessing and advising on project areas, and with applying and integrating GIS data and perspective, to solve environmental challenges across a variety of science and planning disciplines. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

The Kansas Operation is well established and continues to grow providing an atmosphere that allows individuals to expand their career. We are looking for a full-time software/application developer to support a wide variety of applications including information management, environmental services, engineering, and GIS. 

Your Impact

  • Coordinate and develop software applications for engineering, environmental, and GIS. 
  • Analyze and develop solutions to improve upon existing proprietary applications.
  • Provide technical support to a project team, including debugging others’ code.
  • Will work directly with the Topeka, KS office but must be comfortable working with multiple people in multiple locations.
  • Participate on the Information Technology (IT) Committee to manage and promote IT systems for the Kansas Operations.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications 

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field (experience may be substituted for degree)
  • 3-5 years relevant work experience
  • Minimum 2 years of real-world application development experience
  • Demonstrated experience developing solutions in C# and .NET
  • Ability and willingness to learn new programming languages and frameworks
  • Quickly pickup new technology and software packages
  • Ability to work 40 hours per work and some overtime as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have experience developing custom software, applications, and plugins for ArcGIS and HEC-RAS software packages.

  • Experience with Python
  • Familiartiy with ArcGIS software
  • Familiarity with QGIS and OSGEO
  • Familiarity with cloud computing and IT infrastructure
  • Familiarity with HEC-RAS or SWMM software
