This core technology, early career position analyzes our products through simulation and physical testing to develop system level optimized solutions for aftertreatment systems,sensors, ignition systems, battery and fuel cell chemical systems.

In this position you will:

Utilize the core competencies of chemical systems to:

  • Design and conduct experiments for understanding performance and aging of chemical systems
  • Diagnose degradation mechanisms of chemical systems
  • Employ and develop simulation models to answer key questions about the performance of a system or component
  • Make day to day decisions for conducting analysis and testing.

Use tools related to chemical sciences such as:

  • Flow reactors
  • Analytical tools such as XRD, DRIFTs, TGA, BET, SEM/EDS, potentiostat, battery calorimeter, etc.
  • AVL BOOST
  • MATLAB (with In-House developed plugins)
  • Own problem resolution for moderately complex components or lower complexity product systems and sub-systems.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and colleagues, using analysis results to impact and support the successful advancement of projects

You will make an impact by:

  • Applying principles of reaction engineering, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, thermodynamics, electrochemistry and filtration to real-world problems
  • Actively engaging in product problem solving and product failure mode avoidance,
  • Leveraging data analysis to understand risk and make product and technology decisions,
  • Consider system requirements and demonstrate a systems thinking approach to work
  • Collaborating and communicating effectively (both verbal and written) with key stakeholders and colleagues
  • Documenting and presenting your learnings and plans in the form of PowerPoint presentations to customers and management as well as writing technical reports.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • A College, University or equivalent Bachelors Degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field.
  • A postgraduate (Masters or PhD) degree may be required for select Chemical Engineering roles.
  • Good communication skills along with strengths in logic and planning
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools or equivalents, especially Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Prior hands-on product experience is preferred, but not required

Cummins Full Time Requirements:

  • College, University, or equivalent technical experience required
  • Minimum 2.5 or above GPA required
  • Must be able to complete 40 hours per week
  • 2 years in a position/internship relating to your field of study preferred

Compensation and Benefits
