Job Details

General Summary:

Plans, directs and controls the selection and purchase of merchandise. Develops merchandising strategy, including merchandise assortment, sales planning and pricing. 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and execute strategic buying and merchandising objectives to achieve Company sales and profit goals.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial management information including reports that summarize business activity and financial position in areas of sales and customer buying trends.
  • Responsible for overall leadership as it relates to trend direction, competition and market share.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership in the development of information services and technology that link with company mission and business initiatives.
  • Develop long-term, close vendor relationships that endorse and enhance the Company’s customer service focus, and support overall growth of the business. Ensure maintenance of consistent and productive vendor relationships.
  • Create a work environment that fosters commitment, energy, execution and speed.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated results-oriented financial leadership.
  • Strong financial analysis skills sufficient to technical, operational and strategic leadership to management in the areas of financial controls and forecasting.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, understand and help problem-solve issues faced by high-growth retailers. Ability to give strategic direction in matters of merchandising.
  • Strong problem solving skills, utilizing technical expertise and good business judgment in support of operational and strategic objectives.
  • The ability to manage in a high-growth, rapidly changing corporate environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce results by leveraging resources, maintaining tough expense control, and managing key initiatives effectively.
  • Ability to effectively recruit, assess and develop personnel. Strong “hands-on” performance management abilities.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management.
  • Ability to make the tough decisions while at the same time maintaining a solid working relationship with the other members of the senior management team.

Work Experience &/or Education:

  • At least 10-15 years of retail leadership experience with 5 or more years executive management experience in a large multi-unit retailing company. 
  • Prefer experience in a billion dollar plus retail growth company.
  • Bachelor's degree in business or merchandising required; MBA preferred
