The Opportunity

Our location in Columbus OH, currently has an opportunity for a Principal Research Statistician.

As discipline expert, drives functional performance by designing and monitoring state of the art statistical analyses to expedite the operation and evaluation of new or improved products. A key Statistics discipline contact. This position is part of the leadership team in the Clinical Data Analytics and Statistics functions within Abbott Nutrition Research and Development.

WHAT YOU’LL DO 

Primary Job Function

  • Division responsibility for providing statistical expertise at both the study and project levels in the areas of: protocol and study design; and case report form design; database structures; and analysis plans; and collaborate with nutrition science to determine content of and to complete joint reports; including the review of such reports to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • Division shared responsibility for administering and maintaining computer systems used for data management; statistical analysis; and electronic record storage under 21CFR Part 11 regulations and validation requirements.
  • Provide core statistical support for all Business Units (Pediatrics, Adult Therapeutic, Discovery Platforms, Quality/Regulatory/Legal; R&D; Medical Affairs, Safety, and Marketing areas)
  • Lead group to interpret Federal Regulations for statistical analysis and data management and act as subject matter experts for project teams.
  • Ensure the timely completion of all deliverables to meet business needs.
  • Own and recommend division statistical support processes to ensure accuracy and consistency of analyses of data.
  • Serve as an organization liaison within the division; i.e.; work closely with all Business Units in the analysis of data for technical/scientific documents. Facilitate issue resolution across these functional areas as it relates to statistical analyses.
  • Establish partnerships across divisions to support and align with corporate initiatives such as training courses, data analytics programs, and corporate statistical standards documents.

  • Develops network valued by functional leaders. Actively supports open exchange of expert discipline knowledge. Deepens insight to better assess current and emerging business challenges enabling functional goal achievement.
  • Ensures quality and effectiveness of key results of major project plans within function through sound design; early risk assessments; and implementation of fallback strategies.
  • Anticipates challenges. Creatively applies knowledge of concepts; principles; and theories. Develops and continually advances statistics direction.
  • Sources and identifies emerging statistics trends from multiple internal and external sources. Assesses relevance. Determines use of innovation. Integrates trends into functional short-term objectives. Advances cross-discipline technology and direction.
  • Applies imagination. Generates institutional knowledge. Creates; invents; and implements new or better approaches; alternatives; and breakthrough ideas that are valued by customers within the function. Develops and advances existing and breakthrough technology.
  • Presents statistics concepts and results for function statistics and non-statistics leaders as well as potential and existing partners. Maximizes impact and value of expertise.
  • Maintains external reputation as discipline expert. Influences industry with presentations; serving on panel discussions at industry meetings; attending industry meetings; or authoring articles for peer-reviewed publications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING 

Required 

  • PhD in statistics or related field with 8-10 years of related work experience, or MS in statistics or related field with 12 years of related work experience
  • At least 2 years of leadership or mentoring experience; Proven research experience with publications in the field; Experience in using R language; Expertise with SAS programming; Knowledge of regulatory guidance documents, such as from the International Council for Harmonization (ICH), United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on clinical trials and statistical analyses

Preferred:

  • Experience as a statistician in clinical trial research;. Work in a nutritional or a pharmaceutical company a plus; Experience working with observational data, survey data methods and/or registries, Monte Carlo methods a plus; Knowledge and exposure to CDISC standards, a plus.

The base pay for this position is

$118,000.00 – $236,000.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
