Job Description

We are currently in search of an Instructional Designer (ID) who will focus on eLearning development.

The ID will be a member of Litera’s Global Learning & Development department and report to the Director of Learning & Development, who is in the eastern United States. As part of this team, you will be tasked with creating blended learning solutions using the latest eLearning development technology. Your focus will be on creating interactive and engaging learning experiences across a variety of subject areas.

As a key member of Learning and Development(L&D), the ID will work with the L&D team, as well as liaising regularly with a wide range of subject-matter experts and internal stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of creating engaging learning experiences, exceptional technical abilities, experience with most mainstream eLearning development tools, the desire to take ownership of projects and be willing to take risks in the pursuit of creating engaging learning experiences.

A Day in the Life

  • Work with the L&D team to design and develop new learning experiences.
  • Support updates of existing instructional materials and resources.
  • Monitor and maintain our learning management system (LMS).
  • Work with internal IT teams to ensure the LMS is functioning properly.
  • Attend frequent team meetings and project meetings.

Role Progression

Within 1 month, you will:

  • Complete our new hire onboarding process.
  • Meet your team and learn the nuts and bolts of our business, and where we are going.
  • Familiarize yourself with our technology and understand how we are delivering our solutions to our internal customers.
  • Become an administrator of our learning management system, Intellek.
  • Understand Litera’s organizational structure.
  • Internalize our mission, vision and values and begin to understand how your role contributes to organizational success.

Within 3 months, you will:

  • Become comfortable with updating existing learning assets using Camtasia, Articulate Rise, Articulate Storyline, iSpring Quiz Maker, Snagit, and other technologies.
  • Become an Intellek LMS expert.
  • Set growth and development goals to enhance role-related skills.
  • Determine and plan career and growth goals.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of Litera’s strategic goals and how your role contributes to organizational success.

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Take full ownership of creating and updating all eLearning.
  • Consistently propose improvements to our instructional design processes, methodologies, and delivery.
  • Contribute to the selection of learning opportunities that support Litera’s strategic goals.

General Responsibilities

  • Design and develop engaging, interactive eLearning courses using various authoring tools.
  • Apply instructional design theories, practice and methods to create learning activities that are engaging, activity-driven, and relevant.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to identify target audience’s training needs.
  • Set instructional end goals and create content that matches them.
  • Analyze and apply trends and best practices in learning technologies and instructional design.
  • Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process.
  • Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc.)
  • Devise modes of assessment, such as tests or quizzes, to measure the effectiveness of the course.
  • Maintain project documentation and course folders.
  • Use GenAI tools and effective prompting to aid research and generate objectives, scripts, quizzes, etc.

About You

  • At least 4-6 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally within a L&D or training function.
  • Proven working experience in instructional design and instructional technology.
  • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills.
  • A solid understanding of prompt writing for GenAI.
  • Basic HTML and JavaScript knowledge.
  • Solid knowledge of course development software and Learning Management Systems.
  • Visual design skills (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator) and ability to storyboard.
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts.
  • Proven track record of managing a project from needs analysis through implementation.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable and confident in communicating with people from all levels of the business.
  • A self-starter with a can-do attitude and willingness to take on multiple tasks and projects.
  • Possess an acute focus on meeting milestones and deadlines.
  • Effective and professional written and verbal communication skills.
