Position Summary 

Is this position exempt from overtime pay?

Acts as an instructor or support position within the Advanced Studies and Programs (ASP) Division, assisting Summer Bridge programs/Saturday extensions, Performing and Visual Arts (PVA) Extended Day, Performance Plus or Saturday in the Arts Programs; STEM, BMAH, IB, PVA Problem Based Learning Modules; Advanced Learning Programs Single Subject Instruction in grades 3-5; and Co-Curricular Offerings.Creates a learning environment that provides for student access and involvement in the process and enables each student to achieve identified objectives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?

1. Supports or leads the planning and preparation of instructional materials.

2. Establishes or implements learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development.

3. Prepares, administers and corrects evaluations and assessments, as appropriate to the contract position and maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, Board Policy and Administrative Regulation.

4. Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies including, but not limited to, lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling and multi-media teaching aids to support or lead in the presentation of subject matter to students.

5. Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques if Itinerant teacher.

6. Supports or leads in the maintenance of order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Counsels pupils when adjustment problems arise.

7. Confers with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students; arranges and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary or appropriate to the position.

8. Monitors appropriate use and care of learning tools, equipment, textbooks, materials and facilities.

9. Attends and actively participates in program meetings as appropriate providing input regarding the planning of instructional goals, objectives and methods.

10. Supports the implementation of program tenets within the assigned ASP Office.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Depending on assignment, candidates may be required to have a Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university, Otherwise, Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Experience

  • If assigned to a teaching position, Instructional or Teaching Performance Expectations (TPE) evidence of effectiveness experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current trends, research in field of specialization and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multicultural content, problem solving, and interdisciplinary connections preferred as specific to the office/program purpose or need.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Familiarity or experience with electronic leave reporting/substitute requesting systems (e.g. SmartFind Express), electronic grade reporting (e.g. Power Teacher GradeBook) and electronic teacher/parent communication tool (e.g. ParentConnect) and ability to use instructional technology hardware such as document cameras, presenters, and SmartBoards, etc. as appropriate to the position.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).

Licenses/Certifications

  • If assigned to a teaching position, candidates may be required to hold or be eligible for a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) professional teaching certificate appropriate to area of assignment.
