We are currently seeking a Senior Risk Manager for the Clean Energy Programs. This position is located in Morgantown, WV, but will consider remote locations and require 1/3 of the time spent in Morgantown.

Job Summary

The Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub (ARCH2) will bring together clean hydrogen producers, transport and storage providers and end users across various sectors to catalyze a clean hydrogen economy in the Appalachian region and serve as a building block to a national clean hydrogen network. Battelle is the prime for the ARCH2 program and will be leading up the ARCH2 Program Management Office (PMO), responsible for managing the performance of the ARCH2 program. The ARCH2 Risk Manager is a senior management position within the ARCH2 PMO reporting directly to the ARCH2 Program Manager (PM). The position will provide overall risk management oversight across the ARCH2 project portfolio and will interface directly with the ARCH2 PM, project-specific risk management personnel, and the federal government client concerning all aspects of ARCH2 program risk management. 

Detailed responsibilities for this position include: 

  • Understand and actively manage ARCH2 program risks. 
  • Develop and oversee implementation of a comprehensive Risk Management Plan (RMP) for the ARCH2 program.
  • Develop and implement a program Risk Register (RR) to be used for ongoing risk management. 
  • The RMP and RR shall address and analyze the commercial, technical, construction, schedule, regulatory, permitting, safety, scale-up, infrastructure, financial, management, organizational, and market related risks of ARCH2. 
  • Update the RMP and RR to reflect progress made and risks mitigated as well as new or emerging risks and corresponding management plans.
  • Where and when appropriate, quantitative risk analyses may be required and subsequently incorporated into relevant risk management plans and contingency reserve evaluations. 
  • Monitor ARCH2 project participant risk management plans and processes to ensure sufficient risk management at the individual project level. 
  • Develop and provide routine risk status reporting (monthly, quarterly, annual). 

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or business/management field and 7 years of experience in risk management of large infrastructure projects in the energy and/or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Experience managing programs valued at $100M or larger. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, team oriented, detail oriented, and customer focused.
  • Travel required, up to 50%.
  • Must be U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or business/management field and 12 years of experience in risk management of large infrastructure projects in the energy and/or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Experience in developing and/or managing risk programs for complex energy infrastructure projects, including experience with risk management of federally funded programs and/or public-private partnership programs,
  • Technical experience in the development of clean energy projects, including technology development as well as technoeconomic analysis or environmental lifecycle analysis of hydrogen-based applications.
