Job Description

Position Summary 

The Business Development Leader has the responsibility for managing Visa's Merchant Sales & Solutions (MSS) function in India and South Asia with the primary focus on deepening Visa's relationship with key strategic merchants and Acquirers, and broadening Visa's acceptance footprint across all channels including face to face, online and mobile. This role will involve overseeing the development and implementation of card acceptance strategies to grow the penetration of electronic payments in designated merchant segments to drive the increase of Merchant Sales Volume (MSV) via merchant initiatives and projects that will grow revenue.   

The Business Development Leader is responsible for understanding and communicating local market needs, effectively defining market specific strategies with the help of Hub and global support, and to execute strategies in a timely manner. The role must establish and foster strong relationships with both external and internal stakeholders at all levels of staff.   

The individual in this position will be primarily responsible for developing acceptance foot print in India and South Asia and engaging and partnering with acquirers, payment facilitators, wallet providers, mPOS providers, and merchants. This position requires experience in the card payment industry in India and South Asia, specifically in acquiring and merchant business. The candidate should be familiar with the market landscape, bank clients, merchants and local regulations   

Responsibilities:  

  • Execute the Merchant Sales & Solutions strategy for India and South Asia to increase Visa MSV (Merchant Sales Volumes), acceptance, market share, data processing revenues and create acquirer, merchant and consumer preference for Visa
  • Identify acceptance opportunities to target, by analyzing acceptance gaps and segment potential with key acquirers and merchants
  • Facilitate and direct internal Visa operations in response to specific merchant or merchant acquirer requests and ensure delivery of essential business support in line with growing Visa's share of wallet with the respective clients
  • Co-ordinate and present business development and product implementation opportunities to clients

Merchant Development

  • Establish and maintain positive, beneficial and constructive relationships with key merchant client contacts and influence client preference for VISA through provision of valuable business solutions through Visa capabilities
  • Work closely with Product, Technical Integration, CRM, Marketing, Customer Support, and other functions to articulate the value proposition (benefits, ROI, etc.) of new digital solutions that will attract and retain physical and eCommerce / mCommerce merchants
  • Project manage pilot/test/learn activities for new capabilities including defining objectives, identifying target merchants based on use cases and measuring results
  • Establish, maintain and produce reporting and data analytics for allocated Key Merchants
  • Justify merchant partnerships though development of business case to determine ROI and level of investment.
  • Achieve specific merchant volume targets. Participate in market analysis and local business development and/or product development strategy; develop and submit account and/or product plan
  • Identify high-potential internet and mobile merchants
  • Work with marketing, sales, product, integration and legal teams to create easy to understand internally and externally facing content including sales training, product positioning documents, competitive positioning, FAQs and additional product marketing collateral
  • Understand product performance metrics and work with cross-functional teams to deliver best practices and recommendations to improve merchant performance

Other Partnerships

  • Monitor emerging payments landscape and explore partnership opportunities with payment facilitators, wallet providers, and mPOS providers increase of MSV

Qualifications

Professional

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Computer Science (or related fields of study)

Technical

  • Proven track record in sales, relationship management in merchant and acquiring business
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Experience and knowledge of payment cards industry preferred
