Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the successful candidate will lead the team that builds and manages the IT systems for their family of ecommerce websites that are created entirely in-house by their development team. 

The IT Services team maintains their server infrastructure, recommends improvements, procures equipment, and manages the day-to-day IT needs of their remote workforce and the servers in the Dartmouth office and Halifax co-location facility. They run some cloud systems in AWS and Azure, and the Manager will lead the expansion of the capabilities of the team in managing cloud infrastructure. The Manager will also work with peers from other divisions and with consultants to improve systems and manage cybersecurity.

The Job at a Glance 

This position is a hybrid position as the successful candidate must be available to periodically travel to work in Halifax or Dartmouth. The position is full-time, regular office hours but due to the nature of IT systems after-hours work may be required when production systems are impacted. 

A Typical Day 

  • Manage and support technical resources that support end-user community.
  • Recruit, train, and develop a skilled IT team.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members.
  • Design, install, and manage Windows and Linux servers in our data center and office (located in HRM).
  • Build the team to support future growth.
  • Monitor the following systems: service desk, network monitoring, security incidents, and email notifications.
  • Escalate severity one incidents to management and company when appropriate.
  • Document incident management KPI and metrics.
  • Validate new software and ensure it aligns with PT operational procedures.
  • Create SOP documentation, system diagrams, and perform knowledge transfer to team members.
  • Participate in monthly system maintenance and manage maintenance schedules.
  • Assist in troubleshooting network issues including wireless.
  • To be on call to support the facility as needed.
  • Architect, implement, and manage systems to ensure high availability for our ecommerce websites.
  • Monitor all servers and network gear and manage the development and installation of monitoring systems.
  • Support the Application Development team.
  • Develop and administer security policies and procedures in collaboration with cybersecurity experts.
  • Review and prioritize security vulnerabilities and resolving CVEs related to Windows, O365, Azure, Storage and Server.
  • Engage with 3rd party vendors on product support issues to improve processes/notifications and escalation procedures.
  • Manage all office technology in the Dartmouth office.

To Land This Opportunity 

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • You have 5 - 10 years’ technical experience, supporting a large-scale enterprise environment and experience with IT Operations
  • You have the ability to diagnose and resolve complex problems utilizing systematic and methodical problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize when additional assistance is needed and/or advisable.
  • You have the ability to interface with all functions and at all levels within the organization and with external customers.
  • You have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • You know MS Office – heck, you consider yourself a master!
  • You have the ability to work on many projects simultaneously and be flexible with changing priorities.
  • You have a good understanding of Microsoft Active directory and Cisco networking.

  • Ability to work on large projects while maintaining day-to-day responsibilities.
