Job Summary

This role will lead strategic initiatives and identify opportunities that drive growth and optimize portfolio performance, profitability and the client experience for the Real Estate Financing (REF) products. This role will establish an appropriate framework for monitoring and measuring portfolio performance ensuring a consistent and strong value proposition and financial performance. The candidate will help drive revenue growth and efficiencies with shared accountability for the bottom-line profitability of the REF Products (i.e., P&L). The role will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) identifying initiatives to improve the value proposition, client experience and ultimately grow the business. This role will coordinate identified initiatives (which could be product, pricing, process, awareness etc. related) with key business partners across: Process Optimization, Digital Strategy, Operations, Sales, Marketing and other key support partners to ensure the opportunities are properly anchored and realized.

The role will track, monitor and optimize REF product usage, behavior and financial performance through analysis while improving and advancing the analytic capabilities and insights of the REF products to understand client behaviors and grow the portfolio. The role is responsible to ensure our products remain competitive, performing ongoing market comparisons and analysis and highlighting gaps and threats to ensure RBC Bank maintains its’ competitive advantage.

Job Description

Product, Pricing and Strategy Development:

  • Designs, creates and develops product strategies (focused on business growth and client experience) in support of the REF products to ensure the planned growth and profitability of the business are achieved while also optimizing and ensuring a seamless client experience exists between RBC Bank and Royal Bank of Canada. 
  • Responsible for leading the product and pricing strategy for the REF business focusing on how we can better drive key business levers to create increased shareholder value through pricing, business optimization and retention. 
  • In partnership with Marketing, the role will identify and drive special offers and incentives as part of the growth strategy.
  • Leads the strategy to acquire, develop and maintain value-add, non-bank partnerships in support of the REF client journey. 
  • Develops and manages 3rd party vendor agreements related to REF partnerships.
  • Responsible for the research and analysis of new products capabilities and features – both in the US and in Canada, to ensure market competitiveness.
  • Responsible for Product risks associated with the REF product suite.
  • Collaborates with key business partners to ensure voice of client is reflected in solution development and evolving client needs and expectations are deeply understood and applied.
  • Reviews and understands client escalations, develops root cause analysis and recommendations to improve the client experience.
  • Works collaboratively with Marketing, Finance, Risk Management, Legal, Compliance, Information Technology, Operations and Distribution channels to scope, size and deliver opportunities and insights related to the REF products that supports and drives profitability and/or improves the client experience.

Product Insights, Analysis and Reporting:

  • Leverages data insights and client behaviors to support and understand RBC Bank’s business growth targets: revenue generation, operational/administrative effectiveness and ensure the quality of the REF portfolio is not at risk.
  • Perform market analysis on competitor REF products, pricing, and capabilities to ensure we are remaining competitive.
  • Supports the development of REF business case materials through data analysis, documentation, research, and vendor assessments aligned to product and pricing strategy.
  • Provides a holistic view of REF product performance by combining marketing, analytics, risk and financial performance into big picture ideas and concepts.
  • Engaged in the Planning and Forecasting process for REF products supporting expectations with analysis and client trends.
  • Leads the monthly and quarterly performance and product P&L reporting for the REF business, including the development of monthly and quarterly business reviews.
  • Identify pricing performance trends and recommend initiatives to address weaknesses and leverage opportunities.
  • Develop and monitor the effectiveness of the business strategy compared to plan and our peers.

Product Management & Team Support

  • Provide key insights and expectations of client performance to inform and influence the product development and design of the broader Product strategy (across all products).
  • Stays informed of and influences the product roadmap, ensuring prioritization for REF initiatives are based upon business benefits and interdependencies across the full suite of products and channels.
  • Partners and works collaboratively with other Product Managers to understand the value proposition and client experience across all products.
  • Role models RBC’s leadership model and ensures the team has a deep understanding of RBC’s vision, strategies and priorities and targeted behaviors.
  • Fosters a spirit of inclusion, agility and collaboration to execute with excellence.

  • Research, analyze and be knowledgeable of the competition, laws and regulations, and best practices in the industry.
  • Provides general support for the Product team serving as the REF SME and performs other duties as assigned.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 5+ years of Real Estate Financing Products and/or Financial knowledge of product revenue and expense drivers (P&L) that stem from one or more of the following: Product, Finance, Marketing or Operations
  • 3+ years’ experience in a client focused industry
  • 2+ years performing research, analysis or other similar work to inform and drive business strategy
  • Highly developed critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to execute in a fast paced, high demand, environment while balancing multiple priorities
  • Influential communication skills with the ability to indirectly influence others and collaborate in problem solving
  • General regulatory knowledge of financial products and related policies and processes
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills with the ability to simplify complex problems into digestible sound bites and turn data and insights into digestible information
  • Bachelor’s Degree – major in business, finance or computer science preferred ( MBA preferred)
